I'm 55 & I don't load my back like that anymore due to back injuries & from the Army & stenosis. I think there are definitely other ways to have strong legs & growth without landing the spine. Your only young once take care of your body now.

I'm 39 and hit squats twice a week. warm up with 135 and then do 225 3x10. Love the feeling of a deep squat, but don't push that much weight.

52 and just recently went back to barbell squats after switching to the Smith Machine and Leg Press for a couple years. I'm a taller lifter and my knees aren't always in the best of moods. My right shoulder is a bit of a mess too, but I manage. It takes me a while to get oiled up but I'm only maxing out around 300 for sets of 3-5 depending on how I feel that day. I'm 3 months in and I'm hoping to keep it up without incident. I also do lots of landmine and goblet squats for pump work.

If you can find a gym with a belt squat I love them

I built a home gym last summer and quit my commercial gym... I've been looking for a good belt squat for home, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
When I had my home gym I used a landmine attachment called "the linebacker squat".. the range of motion is absolute Dynamite, the range of motion has a slight curvature going forward, which is even better when doing it reverse, with the back facing it it's great for doing hack squats. It's an excellent home piece for any gym.. it also has outriggers on there that you can remove. You can do overhead presses with the handles, and you can even do shrugs with it.
Self-explanatory, just getting position underneath it pick it up, step to the left or right do your movements and then set it back down. It's made by Titan..

Now that is awesome. I love how the handles rest on the shoulders. Cupping the barbell collar on a traditional landmine squat is limiting (especially with a bum right shoulder). I really appreciate the suggestion!

I have returned to squats this year after 6 months of following the knees over toes protocols. It is quite amazing how much my knees have improved and allowed me to return to squatting without the discomfort I had previously.

Their belt squat isn't very well made. The depth is shallow.

I have some of their other equipment but the belt squat I didn't care to purchase.

Some videos on YouTube about it

There's another option, there is the leverage squat machine, of course you can do a squat variation, you can also do calf raises and shrugs.i had and OLD one that worked pretty well, it's plate loaded.
It's not big and bulky either..

Great post. Hopefully others will try this as proper biomechanics. I remember when this used to be the norm, then back in the 90s when PT classes got pretty big. The advanced classes taught this to be wrong form and everything was to be done at 90degrees.

It’s funny when there’s a new niche created their goes the wheel right along with it lol

I have a squat rack with a landmine attachment, two benches, trap bar, functional trainer, adjustable and fixed dumbbells, stationary bike, and a treadmill. Space is fairly limited at this point, that's why the Linebacker attachment is so intriguing.

The linebacker is literally like a Swiss army knife, it can actually replace your trap bar, because I have both a trap bar and of course the linebacker. For myself I find that the linebacker is better for traps because of the slight degree that it goes back on you're able to slightly roll back and pinch your shoulders much easier. Unlike having to slightly Lean Forward with doing dumbbells or a trap bar.
What's really unique about it is it's great for overhead presses.
With the fully functional trainer man you basically got everything you need..
You're functional trainer does it have the Smith built into it? If so, there's also a pretty awesome attachment that you can get for the Smith bar, it's a plea that you attached to the bar that essentially makes it easier for doing leg presses. We've all seen leg presses with the Smith machine, but this plate just makes it a bit more easier.. something else to consider, anything that can amplify your equipment while getting the most out of it without spending an arm and a leg.

No Smith built into my functional trainer. Just two cable towers with various, typical attachments and a pullup bar.

Admittedly I had no knowledge of it until seeing the dude on Rogan.

For me at least, it has undoubtedly made significant improvement. I haven’t taken it too far in depth either. Once a day I turn backwards on my treadmill and walk the belt in reverse with it off and I’ve just gradually increased the incline. It was made a huge impact
