100%! I use so many good techniques daily . I am super happy and am lucky that I knew that it ran in the family . It can crush a man to actually worse (as my cousin showed us all last year) .
I feel like Bodybuilding and Work(my work) are the top two things that keep me happy and Up!
I literally do yoga, meditation(multiple types) , sleep sounds/you tube hypnosis , learned belly breathing and breath work at 12 years old guess brought on by my (parents were divorcing, but they are together)it was a few years of drama!!
If I wasn’t in a gym or a kitchen or outdoors ED, I would not do so well. I cannot take ssri’s or snri or any depression medication as my eldest brother did for years and (it can) cause you (not to just get Gyno,but to grow breasts ! (not saying it will). But I had to help him for months with his brain zaps and just some very odd side effects . Luckily he got over all that, but it made me look at an early age for helpful support, supplements, music, art , all that . The only thing that I know works 100% of the time is :
#1 Training or Sports (vigorous exercise) any*
#2 Education about Mental Afflictions (just all kinds)
#3 Diet, Hormones, Meds(if needed)
I feel like SAMe works really well but, I originally took it for my liver and joints! It was an accident that I felt this “better feeling” but it costs a lot and I can only take 800mg not 1600mg. It is an Rx anti depressant.
Studies compilation:
University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Psychiatry considered data from 132 studies—115 clinical and 17 preclinical—and concluded that oral supplementation with SAMe, at daily doses 800-1,600mg; SAMe was equivalent in efficacy to Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) in reducing symptoms and improving quality of life. It appears to have particular benefit in depression associated with other medical conditions such as HIV, Parkinson’s, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia. In people with these latter diseases, SAMe exerts anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
It isn’t the Placebo Effect !!
Head to Head Drug Trials
There are several double-blind RCTs comparing SAMe to various tricyclics, as well as nomifesine, minprine, Lexapro, Zoloft and escitalopram. Early trials showed parenteral SAMe (150-400 mg/day) to be as effective or superior to clomipramine, amitriptyline, and imipramine, but with fewer side effects.
Subsequently, two larger studies—each with roughly 300 patients—found intramuscular SAMe (400 mg/day) to be as effective as oral imipramine (150 mg/day) in major depression.
SAMe may cause fewer and less severe side effects and considerably fewer drug interactions. Moreover, SAMe may prevent or reverse side effects caused by other medications….The risks of SAMe compare quite favorably with prescription antidepressants, particularly in that it does not cause sexual dysfunction or weight gain.
This is an important subject so I thought I’d post some real stuff . Especially on a bodybuilding forum…we tend to have a higher rate of everything . I reiterate, Working out in any fashion on a constant and consistent basis is my far the only “magic bullet or potion” that i surely know helps ! The others are to be discussed with family and/or a healthcare specialist. I always recommend finding a good Psychiatrist, MD first . (not a psychologist* they help but cannot wrote Rx’s in US). Imo/IME - hormone therapy, balance , TRT plus, and getting correct levels (that you) feel good on are paramount as you age . I’m not even close to being a guru, or wise , or anything …this is all my own opinion and I hope it helps anyone or someone .
