Hi Gang,
I thought I would post a log for guys like me that are older, new to gear, may be questioning starting a cycle or TRT, and possibly new to the game. I ran cycles back in the late 80’s and early 90’s with no guidance or science behind it. Grade school, high school I ran track and cross country and wrestled. In the Army, I was in the top 5 in the battalion for physical fitness the ten years I was in. When I got out, I entered triathlon sprint races for 2 or 3 years. I got married, we had two babies, responsibilities mounted, and I took a desk job. I still worked out, ran and biked here and there, nothing for more than 3 to 6 months at a time and nothing serious. Now, being 59 and still have a physically demanding lifestyle, I needed a boost to help get me back to being both physically and mentally prepared to be able to continue live in the mountains, off grid, and being as self-sufficient as possible.
So, for the last 5 years, possibly longer, I’ve been feeling run down, no drive, out of breath, lack of energy, depressed, low libido. Strength was waning, my gut was getting bigger, cardio was so hard I quit doing it instead of pushing through that threshold. My wife was taking over the general chores little by little making me feel like a complete turd. I knew something was wrong but kept putting off going to see the doctor. Besides being in the funk, I had a substantial wrist injury while in the Army, a knee surgery from a car accident in 2010, not the greatest outcome and I have partially torn right rotator cuff. All were becoming more problematic. I finally threw my pride out the window and went to see my doc about this issue and asked for a TRT prescription. Blood work showed I was 557 test level and I was told that it was normal. They didn’t run estrogen or free test. All levels were in line except 4 points high on cholesterol. The doc said maybe I need to get on anti-depressants or see a shrink to fix my low sex drive. No real advice or help for the injuries. I said no thanks to the pills and shrink, that’s not what I came in here for. My wife was with me in the room, saw how disappointed I was. When I got into the car, I told her “Fuck that, I have options and I will fix this myself.” I got home, logged onto a site and made my purchase. I had been reading and learning from you guys on the ASF site for months and felt confident that a beginner cycle was going to be the best option for me, and it was.
I am not looking to compete, but I do want to be confident. That starts with looking and feeling great.
My first “educated” cycle started the end Feb 2023, was 12 weeks, 500 Test E, split on Mon and Thur, 40 mcg clen 2 weeks on, 1 week off (usually only 3 or 4 days) and Anavar 20 mg a day then at 4 weeks, I bumped up to 40 a day. At 8 weeks I stopped the Anavar. I added peptides, TB500 and BPC-157 for healing and AOD-9604 for added fat loss. I went from 193 pounds and 35% body fat up to 208 pounds on my heaviest day and 16% body fat. Once week 10 came, I was dreading going on PCT and possibly not able to return to my prior test levels and worse, dropping back to being into that funk. I decided to skip PCT and start a TRT dose of 200 Test C a week, split on Mon and Thur and wait 14 weeks for my next cycle.
This cycle is 100% SB Labs gear. I plan on running this for 12-14 weeks. If I reach my body fat goal early, I will go back to TRT dose and wait equal time for my next cycle which will be a lean mass / bulk cycle.
400 Test E – split Monday / Thursday
400 Mast E – split Monday / Thursday
50 mg Anavar – split AM and PM – running for first 6 weeks
40 mcg Clen – 2 weeks on 1 week off
Aromasin – 12.5 mg Tuesday and Friday AM.
I had Tren Hex in the mix, but I don't have enough experience with gear to add that at this point so I pulled it.
SB Labs is incredibly easy to work with, great communication, excellent shipping times, opinions and suggestions are from experienced and knowledgeable reps @Onidus and @Seattlesbest as well as other forum members which is very helpful. SB has a great product lineup as well.
I will log this with the hopes that my experience can help some other “less than average” guys that are in my situation and show them that you can change things and be fucking excellent.
As of today:
59 years old
5’ 9” tall
198.8 pounds
14% bodyfat (If caliper measurements are accurate – 9 site Parrillo - do the pics back up 14%?)
Workout Plan:
I will be travelling between home and a remote jobsite. I will utilize my home gym, dumbbells, multi machine and a few cables. On the road, I will go to a gym that has the free weights, BB and DB, Hammer Strength, a number of cable deals and Smith machines.
Daily – 1 mile walk / hike – might add 25# backpack.
Monday: Arms – 8 exercises, 4 sets 15 reps
Tuesday: Shoulders – 6 exercises – 4 sets 15 reps
Wednesday: Legs – 6 exercises – 3 sets 15 reps / Calves 6 sets 15-20 reps
Thursday: Chest – 6-7 exercises - 4 sets 15 reps
Friday: Back – 6 exercises – 4 sets 15 reps
Sat / Sun: Rest / Cardio
Diet: I need about 2900 calories for maintenance. I will be dropping to 2600 calories to start and then drop to 2400 calories in a few weeks. Beef, bison, chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, rice, potatoes, veggies, yogurt, nuts will be my shopping list. Water, juice and COFFEE of course are my beverages. No cheat days planned, no booze, beer, soda, fast food, chips, etc.
Protein goal – 235 g
Carbs - 235 g
Fat goal – 55 g
Pics are from the day I started Feb 20, 2023 and most recent, Aug 10. I think I’ve made decent progress, still have some fat to shed and need to get BF% low enough to bulk next cycle. I know I need some size added too, but, it's a work in progress!
Any advice, critique, opinions, diet tips, etc. is greatly appreciated. I'll post as often as I can and update pics along the way. Looking forward to the ride!
