Get Shredded!
Hey guys,

With this new chapter in life I just started a new job (I’m a boiler engineer) and relocated. All things are going good and we’re happy with everything so far.

That being said I could use some advice from some of you guys that have a routine with going out of town and staying on track with diet and exercise while on the road.

Is it still possible to grow and stay in shape while traveling 3-4 here a week there every month? I’ll be in my truck traveling so I pack all my meals that I would normally eat at home on a day to day basis so as far as nutrition that’s still in check. My only worry is getting my lifts in. Lots of my jobs are in the middle of rural areas so finding a gym is hard unless my hotel room has one. But I did just invest is some really nice adjustable dumbbells. The pickings are slim with only having a set of dumbbells that only go up to 60lbs but I imagine I could still work short head muscles like biceps/triceps/shoulders. I can certainly hit everything else, but I’m not expecting to grow chest pressing or rowing 60lb dumbbells. But they’ll just have to do for now the times I am traveling.

Any of you guys have any advice that have been here before? Bodybuilding is very important to me so not being around every day having my regimen makes me very uncomfortable but that’s life.

Thanks guys!

Hey brother, figured I’d chime in

I used to travel a ton for work. I usually made a point by to stay in hotels with gyms or within a walk to a local park district or ymca. The gyms weren’t like the gym I normally go to, but I definitely got a pump/ sweat / and heart rate up.

First, invest in a TRX system. You can travel with it and hook it up in a hotel room, park, tree etc. Almost every town has a small gym, park district, or YMCA. They all have daily fees etc.

If there isn’t a gym, find a elementary school or park. You can get some amazing body weight circuits/ conditioning/ endurance type workouts there.

Don’t be afraid to do cardio outside. I used to throw on a hoodie and go walking for 45-60 minutes at night.

Remember that something is better than nothing. If all you can do is pushups, crunches and sprints, that is better than watching TV and passing out.

Invest in a decent back pack, throw some weight in there and walk quickly. Rucking is a great form of cardio and not as hard on your body as running

Hit me up with any questions

Check out all the surrounding towns near where you will be traveling to. I live in a town of less than 10,000 people and we have a well equipped gym- dumbbells to 100 lb, deadlift area, plenty of cardio, etc. You might be surprised with some of the gyms in smaller towns. Best of luck.

How serious are you about bodybuilding?

Lifestyle, I wouldn't stress it. Train when, where, and however you can.

If you are trying to be competitive then you've got to find a gym.

Not this year, my last show was last year and I was very proud of what I brought. My main goal is to preserve and maintain my shape I’m walking with now.

I traveled ALOT while still needing to train. You gotta do the leg work if you don’t want to miss your workouts. Call ahead to the local gyms and see if they have daily or weekly rate’s depending on how long you’re gonna be there. Find out if they are open 24hrs too. Chances are you’re gonna have to find the time to workout so the times you’re able to go may vary greatly. Don’t be surprised if you’re suddenly working out at 2:00am. Don’t be too picky either. A gym is a gym when traveling. Also keep in mind you may have to travel a little ways to find a gym. If you don’t have a rental car you’re gonna have to use Uber. As far as food goes pre prep what you can take safely along with your shakes. and the rest of your nutritional needs are gonna have to be met with restaurants or meal delivery services.
