Haha! Good question. The biggest reason I supplement T4 with HGH is because as you introduce more HGH at supra-physiological levels the body can’t keep up with the conversion of T4 to T3. HGH increases that conversion rate. T4 has to be present to convert to T3 which ultimately increases IGF-1 levels. In the end that’s the main goal is to increase IGF-1 which is responsible for cell growth and T3 can actually increase cell size! So once we start pushing more and more HGH the need for exogenous T4 is required to keep up with the increased conversion rate.

How much T4 is required will depend on the amount of HGH being used. Typically until you are at 3-4iu you aren’t at supra-physiological levels yet. At 3iu a day I’m barely out of normal range for IGF-1 levels and my T4 is just below normal range so I typically will use 100-125mcg T4 daily to get the levels in normal range. When I go as high as 4-5iu of GH daily I will increase up to 150mcg daily depending on bloodwork.

So what is the moral of the story. HGH and T4 are better together. I would not use HGH without T4 unless I was under 3iu daily. Here is a great link explaining the science behind why you should use T4 with HGH.
