40 and Looking for help and guidance on starting my journey

I am 40 of age and 5'11" 200 pounds. I want to look good, but I want to be realistic about where I can get with the time I can work out.

The more I read, the less I know, if you get what I mean.

I am not a bodybuilder, but I want to look good. I go to the gym 3 times a week for about 1 hour. This is what time currently allows me.



I want to start on a cycle but I don't know with what to start. I am new here and I've read a few threads but I am not going to lie it gets confusing and when you read the different approaches and opinions; it throws me off.

I am hoping that by opening up and reaching out I can find guidance and help. Oh, and I currently live in Japan so my replies might be at awkward times if you are in the US.

I don’t have as much experience as others here but this is what I would do, if I was starting for the first time.

500 mg testosterone per week, injecting every 3.5 days.

I would run for 12 to 16 weeks.

For me, I was already on TRT so I can’t speak to post cycle therapy well.

Welcome. Honestly brother I get majority of my advise from Fletcher. There is an abundance of great advise on here it’s just recommended you take it. Too many guys are in a hurry and have unrealistic expectations and ignore advise.

Your still young. Dial in how you want to eat then throw in some gear if you want. Take @Fletcher up on his advice. Lot guys on here now there shit.
You are totally right. I am young and sometimes I forget that. But I want to feel young again. That's why I want this journey to be done correctly.

I have not. And in my current situation, that will be a difficult task. But I will have to figure that one out. I live out in the country in Japan (I don't speak Japanese) Google translate is your friend but finding Drs for bloodwork is a challenge here.

Its not essential. You're 40, adding test can only be a good thing. I was just curious. I like to see bloodwork if possible to identify any other potential issues.

I agree. That's why I want to figure out how I can overcome this over here.

It would just take longer for the results. I think it means 2-5 day results mailed in the US. There are a ton of other sites to do mail in bloods.
Hopefully it works. There may be issues sending blood through customs though. Idk. Never tried.

If you cant get bloodwork, its not the end of the world. If you eat healthy, exercise & take the proper supplements (Ill help you there) you will be fine.

I’d get bloodwork first, seeing your situation I’d make a fair assumption that your Testosterone levels may not be the greatest. I’d get some testosterone and some Arimidex or Aromasin just in case for estrogen issues if they arise. I’d start on 150mg of test a week, just for TRT and health benefits (assuming your T levels aren’t all that optimal) Run that for 4 weeks, during that time become more intense in the gym and solidify your diet. After that month bump up to 200mg or 250mg per week for the next 5-8 weeks. Then 300mg/350mg per week for the remaining 9-12 weeks. You should make some good progress, by the 3 month mark especially if you made your gym sessions count and ate adequately. Hopefully by then you have figured out how to get bloodwork. I’d get bloodwork right towards the end of the cycle to see where everything is. Then after the 12 weeks depending on the numbers I’d go back down to trt either 125/150/200 per week whatever it may be to be healthy a little above normal. Ride that for a couple months, then back up at 400mg per week for week 1-4 then 500mg for week 5-12 then back to your TRT. Slow clean gains. You can always just ride the trt dose for however long you want if you don’t want to bump back up in a couple months and you’ll still make progress and avoid health issues. Most people wanna be on the most amount of shit possible all of the time, not even done with a cycle and already day dreaming about the next. I like the peace of cruising on low TRT dose, not having to hear my pulse every night when I go to bed, then whenever the time is right cranking it up.

That’s what I would do in your situation, I’m not a doctor nor an expert. You can definitely approach it differently and tweak things to your preference, but a slow and steady low test cycle to get you going should do you wonders.

The first thing I would do is start tracking all of my food (note it or using app). You could do this to find an average of how many calories and macronutrients you eat a day.
Then you need to find your maintenance calories. You can use one of many formulas that will give you an estimate. I wouldn’t spend to long on which formula is best, just look at a few and ballpark it.
next I would set a goal. And you can use testosterone supps at your age. i'm using this testosterone product from vital herbal, I’ve had more energy and an easier time getting going in the mornings. Makes me feel more energetic, and feel that I have more stamina. Would highly recommend

In this day and age the best advise I can give you is to hire a coach. Let the coach know what your goals are and your status and let him guide you through. You are right it can get confusing reading all different responses.

I coach people, and the first thing I ask is, why do you need gear? At 40 it is very possible your natural production has dropped, and that in and of itself is a reason to go on TRT/HRT, but as others have mentioned, you need lab work. If you still have good natural production I would ask, how long have you been training, and have you maxed out your natural potential first?

if you were younger and if you have good production (big if's) I usually recommend at least 5-7 years of natural training before using gear. Again, you are 40 and may have a medical reason. How do you feel? Is the pecker still working well? I did not touch gear until I was nearly 30, after 17 years of natural training, and then stopped at 43. I felt fine...then at 48 I started to have issues in the bedroom and sure enough had low T.

Get a coach...Fletcher would be someone to consider. There is lots of good advice on this thread.
