    Time

I'm debating a friend and he's telling me time has always existed , I'm explain to him time is a man made thing . In the animal world they only know day or night . Time is man's measurement that without man time would not exist

Time is the 4th dimension. Try programing a pulse sequence in an MRI without a time domain. Watch a fox try to trot across a field without a time domain. Try telling your cat that it's not time to eat. Try developing satellite technology without accounting for relativity.

Time is relative. Time as we know it based on our solar system. Time in another solar system would be much different. However, there most likely exists a universal time consistent for all solar systems and galaxies, making relative time irrelevant.

That being said, you are arguing about two separate things. One of you is talking about relative time and the other is talking about the ability to perceive time.

Time has always existed. The word itself hasn’t, obviously. It’s a word used to describe the measurement of distances between objects with gravitational mass.

    it is indeed relative.

if we stopped using clocks and time keeping pieces... the universe wouldn’t “freeze” in place. Objects with various mass would still interact with other objects of various mass.

we just measure it with numbers so things work more smoothly, as in schedules and such.

My thing is time wouldn't exist. Yes day and night exist without man , but time was created to perceive things .if man didn't exist it would simply be night or day unless another intelligent creature came along . If planets didn't exist there would be no use for time

There is only this “moment”. The now.

Past doesn’t exist. Future doesn’t exist. Or at least not guaranteed to anyone.

    You only have this moment.

Ppl waste a lot of “time” on past thoughts. And future moments that may never come.

Before man there wasn't time , time is man's invention. The measurement of things is man made. There was only night and day

Past and future timelines run concurrently and parallel to the moment or the now you exist within currently.

    as per Einstein.

The word “time” is mans creation. However time itself (or what it represents) is not dependent on human life to exist.

if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, it does indeed generate sound waves.

I'm not sure you're defining you're case or the point you're trying to make. Time as a measurement is indeed a construct by man. The clock, calendar, etc. Even then, they are based 100% on the sun (or day and night as you say).

If time did not exist, then everything would exist forever so long as it wasn't destroyed by an outside influence. Things would not decay without time. Or conversely, things would never exist. A tree takes time to grow, so there would be no new trees. It couldn't even rain without time, because it takes time for the drop of water to fall from the sky to the earth.

And your girlfriend's period is still late.

yes, time is a unit of measure but it would still exist even if it wasn't quantified. An inch is a quantified measurement too. But that distance between two points still exists whether it's quantified by a measurement or not. Time is no different. Yes, the ability to perceive it as a quantified measurement depends on the existence of intelligence, but time marches on whether anyone is quantifying it or not.
