    Military Advice?

So my son is at that age where heís starting to have to decide what path heís going to take out of high school. Heís not sure if he wants to go the military route or not and since the military was never in my cards at his age I feel like I canít really give him good advice on it. I was wondering if any of you guys here that went into the Military would mind taking the time to give the pros and cons of it and if you would do it all over again if given the opportunity? Thanks in advance.

does he have any idea what type of career he wants civilian or military? Tell him to take the asvab and see what jobs he would qualify for first.

I know heckler was in the service and took what he was doing and now does it in the civilian world and now is filthy Jew rich .I went the other way and only wanted to be infantry and let them lie to me at meps . I went infantry and didnít even get to jump out of planes or go to ranger school . I am not sure how smart your son is or where you are at financially with college tuition but the military will pay for that. I think that everyone should join the military but I always tell people to sign up for the shortest amount of time that they will let you just in case they donít like it . He could always reenlist for bonus money or choice of duty station. He should talk to a recruiter and find something that he likes and qualifies for and than do some research and make sure that heís not picking a job that is hard to get promoted in .

I wasnt planning on college but it was paid for so why not, they have a program thru the VA I'm not sure if you need to have a disability to qualify but its called vocational rehab they will pay you to go back to school and learn a new career, you also qualify for unemployement while on this. One of me friends is doing this right now

I would suggest you help him research a carer path, something that is useful in civilian life, like automotive, aviation, construction or welding. dont let the recruiter steer him into a field thats a dead end. working with explosives and shit sounds fun but most these guys cant do anything with it when the exit. even if he stays in and retires he will need to find a job in 20 years and being a marksman doesnt really go far on a resume as a special skill. just saying

Practice and study to score well on the asvab test.

Definitely pay into the GI Bill for college.

But a great score opens doors

I did military intelligence. Was a good mos

Stay away from infantry jobs.... IMO

I would serve again. Great experience and helped me in many ways later in life.

I wouldnít be where I am today.

They have a post 9/11 gi bill that you donít have to pay into now everyone gets it . It also looks like you can still pay the 100 dollars a month for a year older one . I am not sure what the difference is but the new one is pretty damn good .

I was an electronics technician in the Navy. I got and out landed a good union job. Got to live overseas and see the world. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't do it any different.

I scored a 92 on my asvab and they offered me the nuke program in the navy. 6 year enlistment, 3 of that schooling. When youíre done youíre like a semester away from being a nuclear engineer...still wish I would have done it, thatís big bucks
