Just noticed this excellent world map showing current status of recreational marijuana legalization. Broken down to state level in the US as well.

Mexico is about to turn blue here too, as mentioned in another thread.

Can't help but notice that NONE of the states that have legalized are politically "Red" i.e. conservative, Republican-voting states. I know nearly all of us here support legalization, and also that most peeps here are right-wing and many of you live in these Red states.

So I wanna ask: Why do you guys think it is that the lawmakers in your states have their heads up their asses on this issue?

Is it simply the fact that they're Republican?

I'm aware that Sen. Corey Gardner in CO is GOP and also pro-legalization but he appears to be a hardcore exception.

I'm in the reddest of red states, unfortunately being a republican seems more like a past time or a football team they love. It doesn't matter what they do or how much tax breaks they give oil companies or how much they throw them in jail for doing what they do, or refuse to fix the roads, or pay for school busses... Doesn't matter, they are on the red team end of story.

It's weird to ride around listening to gangster rap breaking the law and smoking bud with people on disability and welfare bitching about other people doing exactly what they are doing. Doesn't make sense.
They all go buy tons of ammo every election year like that is going to do something. Some are living some weird Red Dawn fantasy, some just think sex predator gays are coming to rape their children, others just think we're all commies and aren't sure what that means but hey don't like it.

There is just a weird stigma, they blame it on the law but they all drink and drive and will occasionally break out illegal liquor... So I don't think there is any rational argument other than "its liberal hippie shit". I heard an old lady the other day going on about how Denver was so safe until they legalized weed and now there are drive by shootings!!! LOL
Also law enforcment in these areas HATES marijuana, they see it as people smoking weed is a slap in their face for some reason.... Crazies.

It should be legal everywhere and I'm red as can be!

That's what I don't understand, weed is the 1 thing that we all love! Why is it they can't get that done? Even the people that aren't into it don't really seem to care.
Don't tell me about health care if you can't get weed done. I'd say legalization is setting the bar pretty low for 2020, that's all I want! Don't care what party gives it to me.

Legalize weed and stop taxing overtime and I'll join your party!

I’m red through and through as well. I think it should be legalized. It’s no worse than alcohol, actually it’s better.

I hate everything

and I’m purple

As a person who has never smoked weed or used any drug I feel it should be legal everywhere. But I don't want people walking around in public smoking away. In your home, car is fine just not out in public around other peeps

Just what I need.... more slow ass gawkers holding me up on the roads. Stay off my lawn you goddamn stoners!!!

kidding (sort of)

Warren is obviously high.... 24/7

what a dumb cunt.

im sure it’s a fake tweet but, you know goddamn well she’s thinking it. I’d love to smash her in that injun face of hers with Jyms bong!

Here we go!

That's enough to make this communist do a facepalm. Dems are drunk on libtardism ever since electing a brother. As a hard lefty, I'm ashamed.

It is probably be a fake tweet, but that isn't a stretch. The whole Woman, color thing isn't as big a selling point as people think. Obama didn't get elected by being black.

the color on the map doesnt reflect political party, I see Arizona as blue and new york as red on this map and its oppisite. seems like your question should be why socialist countries havent legalized weed

Exactly as it is with alcohol. Except in New Orleans, lol... kinda nice though I gotta say. "Beer to go plz!"

Most people agree with the no-public consumption regulations, even dope smokers. Common sense. And that's usually how it's done. You can't walk around with a joint lit in legal states... none allow it that I know of anyway.

AZ is red, NY yellow. Some blue-political states are still non-legalized, if that's what you mean? For sure. The 2016 election political map is below for comparison.

As for socialist countries in Europe and elsewhere, who knows. Decriminalization and medical dope is widespread, but only Amsterdam has an institutionalized non-enforcement of dope sales so far as I know.

I dont understand, speaking of my profession, you can leave work go to happy hour and get so drunk you have to uber home BUT you can't smoke a joint at night and doze off watching tv cause you might puss hot on a random and lose your job. The best home videos are usually drunks saying "Watch this!!" Not to mention the bar fights alcohol has a hand in, dui deaths ECT... It's so archaic. If Trump said he'd federally legalize it I think even the libs would say eh whats another 4...

I don’t care either way personally because I don’t smoke, but my son smokes.... I wish he didn’t, he’s young but he’s an adult, its his call, I am pleased he trusts me enough to not hide it from me lol, knowing he was raised an anti-drug life philosophy .... anyway, if it mattered what I thought, I’d vote to legalize it and let the chips fall where they may, I am 100% for medical MJ...

seems like your trying to frame this as a liberal / conservative issue or choice. from what I can tell you is drug and alcohol abuse isnt confined to a political party

I'm for MJ legalization, regulation and harsh penalties for selling to minors.
However the price points are still pretty high. The black market will continue to thrive until the legal MJ prices drop.
Right now the taxes on it are too much. Typical government throwing folks in jail for the very thing they are gouging others on.

I think in the next few years we will begin to see the negative impact of it though. More folks driving under the influence and more minors doing long term damage to themselves.

You seriously see no pattern in the states that have legalized and those that haven't?

And I wasn't bringing up any drug/alcohol abuse stats and who is more affected. Could be an interesting subject for another thread however.

If you're ok with the legal selling of alcohol and not ok with the legal selling of weed, you're in denial.

I'm almost 60 years old now but back when I was kid going to college I smoked marijuana often for entertainment. I don't honestly think it made me less productive in my later years. If smoking weed caused me health issues later in life I'd be honest about it too. In an attempt to help, I would warn young people about the negative implications caused from smoking marijuana. Fortunately I have no negatives to share at all, none, zero, zip! Although I don't' use it now I completely understand why many people choose to. For some people it helps with many of their problems in life where other medicine doesn't. So I'm totally for it for those it helps. It should not be illegal to use in my opinion. I live in the great state of Texas but honestly don't even know what the laws are here concerning pot use. Mainly due to being out of the loop for so many years. For the mere sake of freedom, I think it should be legalized across the board. Like I've said a million times to people, I support the smallest form of government which gives us all the maximum amount of freedom. So it's hard for me to imagine but there are literally thousands of people locked up in penal institutions because of marijuana. I find this absolutely insane when many other more significant health endangering products are 100% legal. Like other members have mentioned in the past, alcohol or nicotine for example. Both are seriously addicting and a huge risk to health. It's our body, we can decide what's best for it. When politicians learn to operate government correctly maybe then I'll learn to pay them mind when they speak of our health. Everything our elected officials say currently, is a lie or an attempt to further/increase their power.

I should also mention I don't think any type of drug possession should land a person in jail. Drug addiction is a known medical problem and should be treated as such. Victims of abuse for example often times end up addicted to drugs thus prison is the next stop for them. Prison wont even come close to digging out the root cause of addiction when institutions are chocked full of the same types of drugs. Prison never cures drug addiction for 99.9% of the people locked up for it. Locking many of these addicts up only means you're locking up victims of serious abuse often times. We're ruining lives not helping society and it's for reasons they wont talk about in front of cameras. Guys, I'm not a tree hugger, I speak from experience here. The vast majority of addicts I've conversed with over the years were victims of serious sexual and physical abuse when they were children. I realize it's not always the case but, many times, most of the time, it's a fact. As a society we own this. We're promoting the suffering of abuse. Instead of oppressing victims we should be liberating them. We're too busy spending millions of hard earned tax dollars on the study of tree frog mating in tropical regions to care about any of this.

denial of what?

denial of what?
That alcohol is safer than weed.. experienced users as I'm sure most here of us are with both substances should be able to agree on this I would think

The biggest roadblock with legalized marijuana is that it's still a Schedule 1 drug which is insane. When that changes then the floodgates will open hopefully.

Absolutely. I hear of people dying because of drunk drivers all the time. Never once heard of it because of a stoned driver.

I definitely don’t hit my wife nearly as hard when I’m high as opposed to drunk. 😉

domestic violence is not a joke. If you are a victim of domestic violence and you are a little bit hot with a decent ass and/or a nice set of tits, and obvious a vagina, please call me for a seminar on how to avoid getting hit by your drunk husband/lesbian lover. Yes, you should bring lube.
