Gentlemen,
After a lot of research I think thatI am going to proceed with TRT therapy. I have spent weeks reading forums, articles and books and it looks like I would be a prime candidate (if there issuch a thing) for TRT. I am showing sign of about 80% of the symptom’s for lowtestosterone. I’m not going to ask the old “what do I need to do first.” I havenarrowed down my next step to three options, Endocrinologists, Urologist (sameDr that I used for my vasectomy) and Anti Aging Clinic in my area that allclaim to address TRT.
I know one of the biggest problemsthat men run into when they want to start TRT is, which type of doctor theyshould go to first or going to a Dr that knows nothing/very little about thecondition. I looked and I have an Endocrinologists, Urologist (same Dr that Iused for my vasectomy) and Anti-Aging Clinic in my area that all claim toaddress TRT (or at least they say they do).
If I am able to find a goodphysician that prescribes TRT, I would like to go with the shot versus Androgeloption. I have heard a lot of bad things, or atleast not very positive, reviewsof Androgel. Also, the shot looks like it is a lot cheaper option. A mostphysicians that you have come across dead set on prescribing one type oftreatment or are they usually flexible?

I would just tell them your concerns with the gel say you don't want it rubbing off on your wife, kids, pets, etc. make something up if you don't have wife kids pet etc.

If you have an anti aging clinic in your area there are probably others close by as well (in case they don't tell you something you want to hear)

In my experience with these clinics. Some of them only get paid if they prescribe you something. So they want to keep you happy without loosing their license. That's at least the couple I've been to

I get my trt from my primary care doctor. I expressed my concerns about gel and didn't want pellets. I had no problem getting on trt at 200mg test cyp per week split into 2 doses per week. I see him every 6 months or so. You don't necessarily need a specialist.

How old are you if you dont mind me asking?

Are you running a/i ?

Also what is your doctor looking at every 6 months as far as markers go lipid, free test, total test, e2 etc...

I've gone through PCP's, Urologist and an Internist.
Apparently doctors get the most kickback through pellets (thankfully I didn't go that route).
Did Testim for awhile and a compounded topical which worked for about a year but then I got absorption issues.

Finally I found a TRT specialist.
It is cash pay but they are way more flexible and don't push 1 treatment over the other which I prefer.
And everything is mailed directly to my house or office.
Looking back I wish I had done more research and just started with a hormone specialist and skipped all the rest LOL!

Seriously pricey though, no? I know you said "cash pay" but it's the amount of cash that's most relevant. :)

I go through my PCP. He prefers injections, and usually has them administered in-office. But, He was totally open with, and currently allows, me to do them at home to save the weekly trip to his office. I'd give your PCP a talk and see what he/she says, you may be surprised how receptive some are when an informed patient presents what they would like to do as a line of treatment. My doc has "given" me control over a couple types of medication I'm on due to my preferences.
