    Elbow Soreness From Triceps Extensions

I've been using the cable rope to do triceps extensions...Low-Moderate weight, more reps. I've tried different hand positions but almost every time after I work triceps to the point of muscle fatigue, the next day I will have soft tissue soreness in my elbows (but mostly my left elbow) that lasts up to a week. The pain is there when I fully extend/flex my elbow, and is even sore to the touch.

I'm considering working my triceps with a different exercise once my elbows recover this time. But has anyone else had this happen? I figure it has to be a technique issue, but I have read about this exercise and seem to be doing everything correctly.

    Advice anyone? Thanks!

Elbow pain is very common. Usual cause is your damaging the tissue faster than its being repaired. The process of collagen repair is well documented but for what ever reason most lifters and doctors always overlook the primary ingredient which is vitamin C or more specifically ascorbic acid. I suffered horribly from various joint pains 10-15 years ago but since adding 6g of ascorbic acid a day to my supp plan I rarely have any joint pain that persists for more than a day or two if I ever get any.

Thanks everybody! I probably have several things going on. I'll try the supplement, and try to really drill down on my technique keeping my elbows in close. As to the muscle imbalance, that's very likely. I have no issues working my biceps, but there's just something about triceps that feels more like a muscle cramp than a contraction when they start to get fatigued. Such a creepy feeling. Maybe the supplement will help that, as well. Thanks for the input, Zyglamail & Franchise24.

Just an update...this may be more than I thought. I have not worked arms since the pain started on Sunday. Just normal daily stuff. Yesterday and today the pain is much more intense and is now spreading through the back of my upper arm and down into my forearm, thumb, and pointer finger. Full extension and contraction at my elbow is very painful - I have to move it very slowly. And I feel fluid or some other type of swelling above my elbow. I usually just let injuries rest, but this may be something more involved. No idea what I've done and surprised that I didn't feel anything acutely when it happened.

Haven't heard of that. I'll check it out. Thank you! It may help me elsewhere too. I've just gotten over having both rotator cuffs partially torn when one of my pharmacy techs rear ended me on the way home after work. Thankful surgery wasn't needed! I'm prob 90% healed from that finally!!!

Thanks! I've read about that now, and came across an article about IGF. I think it's tendonosis...ugggh! Today is bad. My left arm is pretty much useless right now. I've really hurt it this time, and still can't pinpoint a single moment when I felt any pain at all during my workout.

It could be swelling starting from the tricep extensions. Could be a pinched nerve. It will probably go away in time. One time I was up late doing research for about 4-5 hours resting my elbow on the computer table and the next day I had numbness in my bottom two fingers. That numbness lasted about 6 months. No fucking around. I wouldn't worry too much unless the pain gets bad.

From now on take two steps back from the tricep push down machine. You don't push straight down. You step away and push down at about a 45 degree angle. Trust me. It will take a lot of pressure off the elbows. Don't even get me started on skull krushers and dips....

I'm not doing anything right now except normal movements bc when I keep it immobile the pain is excruciating when I try to move it again. My thumb and index finger have numbness and I have no grip strength in my left hand. This is crazy. Gotta be a pinched nerve. Thx for the tips and reassurance!

Look into tendon scrubbing, works wonders.
