Came across this article I saved awhile back when I needed it..It's basic info with a few resources and I thought others may find it of use.. By no means is this list is complete but it gives you an idea whats out there in addition to encrypted email service to protect your privacy when you need it... and in light of General Petraeus' recent F up with Mrs. Broadwell thinkin they could hide their affair from others by saving their messages as drafts and both parties accessing the email account from remote locations....

Remember even the head of the CIA can be brought down by the information that one shares on the internet... Nice reminder to think about b4 you hit send next time..

nice... how about this service also...

https://burnnote.com/#/

info: http://allthingsd.com/20120131/with-burn-note-self-destructing-emails-vanish-after-theyve-been-read/

might be good to use also...

I've been reading some info on Cloud Security also like CipherCloud.com Don't know really how secure any of this is in the end... If the FED's want to read about your illicit affair i think they will...

And your email isn't really secure from a warrant, even Hushmail can't stop that..

Here's an app that give the sender some control over msg destruction... I think this is a must have for everyone actually... It's not available for Android users but will be soon...

https://www.mywickr.com/en/index.php

From the co-founder: Wickr, uses technology to ensure that messages cannot be recovered, not even by law enforcement officers, who can acquire subpoenas to compel wireless providers or Internet service providers to turn over suspects' data as evidence. :)

Immune to screen shots though by the receiver of the msg....

If you are engaging in activities on the internet that are questionable or require some type of security and anonymity or just sitting @ Starbucks or McD's accessing their public WIFI you may want to check this out...

While looking more into VPN services I came accross the TOR project @ TORproject .org as well as the Guardian project @ guardianproject.info and have been using TOR now for a few weeks and I have to say I'm impressed...Downloaded the software for desktop after trying it out on my kindle for a few weeks....

[h=2]Tor: Overview[/h][h=3][/h]
[h=3]Inception[/h]Tor was originally designed, implemented, and deployed as a third-generation onion routing project of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. It was originally developed with the U.S. Navy in mind, for the primary purpose of protecting government communications. Today, it is used every day for a wide variety of purposes by normal people, the military, journalists, law enforcement officers, activists, and many others.
[h=3]Overview[/h]Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables software developers to create new communication tools with built-in privacy features. Tor provides the foundation for a range of applications that allow organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy.

Individuals use Tor to keep websites from tracking them and their family members, or to connect to news sites, instant messaging services, or the like when these are blocked by their local Internet providers.

Groups such as Indymedia recommend Tor for safeguarding their members' online privacy and security. Activist groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) recommend Tor as a mechanism for maintaining civil liberties online. Corporations use Tor as a safe way to conduct competitive analysis, and to protect sensitive procurement patterns from eavesdroppers. They also use it to replace traditional VPNs, which reveal the exact amount and timing of communication. Which locations have employees working late? Which locations have employees consulting job-hunting websites? Which research divisions are communicating with the company's patent lawyers?

As to VPN services... Do some research... some of the paid VPN services keep logs, and personal info, some more than others and a few have also surrendered that info over when requested by LE....

http://invisibler.com/lulzsec-and-hidemyass/

Hidemyass VPN based in the UK surrendered info to the FBI relating to the investigation of Cody Kretsinger in 2011...

A branch of the U.S. Navy uses Tor for open source intelligence gathering, and one of its teams used Tor while deployed in the Middle East recently. Law enforcement uses Tor for visiting or surveilling web sites without leaving government IP addresses in their web logs, and for security during sting operations.

android mobile apps:

Orbot: Anonymous Web Browsing
Orbot brings the capabilities of Tor to Android. Tor uses Onion Routing to provide access to network services that may be blocked, censored or monitored, while also protecting the identity of the user requesting those resources.

Orweb:
a browser with increased privacy
Orweb is a privacy enhanced web browser that supports proxies. When used with Orbot, Orweb protects against network analysis, blocks cookies, keeps no local browsing history, and disables Flash to keep you safe.

You can also configure Firefox mobile with the:Proxy Mobile Add-On
A Firefox for Android Add-on which exposes HTTP and SOCKS proxy settings through a new options menu. This enables the user to connect with Tor through Orbot, as well as any network proxy service.

However, those @ Amazon like to have your info go through their servers and have made it difficult to set up any type of VPN on the Kindle, so in my case I had to do a little more work since I don't want to root my Kindle just ye......So, I Downloaded Opera Mobile app and set the http/https proxy settings to the TOR network. That allows me to open Orbot, connect to TOR then use Opera Mobile...

now, when I need it all my internet traffic is routed through the TOR network, it's encrypted, and I'm anonymous... when you log in to the network your connection is verified on the start page showing what your IP address appears as to others... :)

torproject.org has all you need for information and software download to your desktop or android mobile device...

Guardianproject.info has much more related to the android products as well as app downloads...

You dont want to use Tor for forums or browsing the internet I will tell you that but VNPs are the bomb and having several with different servers different providers adds a little untracability.

and be always wary of any "free" wifi... For Google Chrome go to "Settings." and install the add-on HTTPS Everywhere also for Firefox, info @ https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere

For Chrome also the Use HTTPS add-on

the Mozilla ForceTLS add-on @ https://addons.mozilla.org

Just basic security that a lot of people don't think about until they are F'd and it's to late:)

That's a lot of high value info to chew on. Thank you greatly for the compilation. Got my reading material for the next....who knows.

There are some GREAT VPNs out there

Indeed. I second you. I've been using VPNs for a long time. Since the day I started it, I've tested many free and paid VPNs like Hotspot shield, ZENMATE, NORD, Express and many more. My biggest concern is IP Leakage and data security. That is the reason you cannot trust every VPN available. The provider must be reliable and trusted. before using ExpressVPN, I had a horrible experience of data leakage. But seriously its been 3 years I've tried ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and PrivateVPN(One Year each) and I've found them best vpn for PC. At least I can say the ones I can trust. You can check more and see if you find any suitable VPN for your PC. Not only you will get quality data encryption and data security, but also you can enjoy other facilities like streaming and bypassing geo-restricted websites.

Here are some of the best VPN services that I have come across. They are actually endorsed by reddit users on the basis of their own experiences and upvotes.

Very helpful post,

I am a VPN user for the last 4 years, and I had tried may VPNs by subscribing to their monthly plans, But for the last 2 years, I am using ExpressVPN, and I am very satisfied with its services and speed, and i highly recommend ExpressVPN.

Having a VPN is more important today than ever before. Your trail of information as you browse the internet is tracked by companies and can be bought and sold. Free public internet hot-spots are everywhere but could be hiding malicious intent. Governments may block what content you can access. I have been using cyberghost VPN and it is completely reliable you can check it here.
