    sleep apnea

What is your opinions on gear and sleep apnea? Im trying to take care of all potential risks way ahead of time before I ever hop on gear. I understand its more than likely an individualized aggrivation of symptoms. With that in mind could yall please share some personal experiences if any? Did surgery help if you took that route?

Gear does not cause sleep apnea. That is caused by your clef, which is the soft patch of skin in your throat, that vibrates hence the snoring. Also a part in the nose also can cause it. Surgery is required

Im aware it doesnt cause it but supposedly can aggravate symptoms. Also there are many causes of sleep apnea. Large tongue base. Large uvula. Large soft palate on roof of mouth. Enlarged tonsils and adenoids, obstruction of nasal cavity. So far my guess is with my tonsils, palate, and the fact I had my face stomped in by a mob of people.

my sig other had a large portion of his soft palate removed and his uvula...now he can't make this interesting purring noise he used to be able to make, can't roll french, spanish or italian correctly, and he still has sleep apnea
I'm positive from watching him sleep it has more to do with his jaw relaxing and allowing his tongue to obstruct his airway some..
gear has not made it worse or better

Suffered a long time with it. I tried cpap, it worked but was a pain. Had the surgery a few years ago and they rebuilt my nose (broken 3x) at the same time. My throat and nose were sore for a couple of days but it worked. I'd do it again every year if I had to, it worked that well. My wife is the biggest fan because I don't snore anymore, she gets better sleep. Even with my weight changes I do not need to use anything. That being said, it doesn't work for everyone. I recommended it to a friend who said it didn't make a big difference for him. Good luck with it.

I have sleep apnea quite bad, 60 apneas an hour. I use a cpap religiously and sleep very well and quietly. Sleep apnea will shorten your life by 10 yrs or more left untreated. Surgery is hit and miss for almost every case. Jaw positioning is a part of the puzzle only. Weight, sleep position, soft palate tissue, age and large tonsils/uvula are also factors complicating surgery success. Gear has had no effect on my apnea whatsoever.

When I blast I tear it up with snoring. Lots of nights I get kicked out of bedroom and sequestered to my man cave. When I go back to cruising, for the most part, it abates although I still snore some. This has nothing to do with sleep apnea but just letting you know gear does affect me.
