Heads up, Protonmail is no longer safe to use...

I would keep my Protonmail inbox/sent items boxes clean, not save any contacts on there and use a VPN always. Best thing is to leave nothing of value on there should it be hacked or gets turned over to LE.

Do you guys think if I offered secure email service on our dedicated server in Costa Rica people would pay a small monthly fee for it?

Maybe some, but I doubt it would be worth the hassle. Guys will use free before they pay. And if they pay, it won't be much. You'll probably have more administration headaches than money rolling in.

you are probably right.

you are probably right.

While he is likely correct, I would still be interested...I would prefer a service that is safe, I am not made of money obviously as I am in college in my 40's, but I can and would swing a fair price. It would be used only for the clandestine activities..... So it would have to have encryption and whatever else to safeguard the account.

I've set up regular exchange servers before. Once they're all set up, there's not much to do to maintain them other than constantly fighting off spammers. Offering encryption would be a big plus. I would definitely research the laws in any country considered for the location because there's a lot of countries that don't allow encryption or servers without logs. The only really secure email that I've ever heard of was Tor Mail. It was on the Freedomhost server that got taken down by law enforcement ten years ago or so. It could only be accessed through Tor. Law enforcement said there was child porn on the servers. I don't know if that was true or if it was just the excuse they used to take down a truly anonymous email server but I'm incline to believe the latter.
