It's actually worse than that. Back in the early days of cell phones, I was in the military and we had scanners that could pick up cell conversations. We used them for various reasons, but on the weekends we'd take them home and sit around drinking and listening to conversations. These scanners were actually legal back then. It was a goof and some of the shit we heard was pretty funny stuff. One of the really funny ones was some hysterical girl bitching out her boyfriend or husband for cheating while he tried to smooth talk her. His efforts to smooth shit out were just hilarious. I don't remember exactly what was said but we were all rolling laughing at the lame ass lies he was using as excuses. Sometimes it was sexy talk between couples. Other times it was actual serious shit in families. Those calls sucked but most of it was just nonsense calls. Every once in a while we'd hear something rather unnerving. Remember, not a lot of people had cell phones back then and many that did were lawyers. More than a few times we heard prosecutors and defense attorneys discussing upcoming cases and wheeling and dealing with people's lives. One was 3 way conference call with the judge on the line as well. It was a real eye opener to learn that the judicial system is a total facade. There is no adversarial system. The deals are cut and cases are decided outside a courtroom, not inside it. While it's a well known fact that about 95% of cases are decided without a trial (plea bargains), let me assure you that even the ones that do go to trial are decided well before they get to the courtroom. The judge is not impartial and he, the prosecutor, and the defense attorney have already hashed it out and decided what's going to happen. And then all three of them play a round of golf together on Saturday regardless of what they decide. That's the way the system really works.
