First let me say thank you to all that responded with actual answers to my questions. It’s my sons future so it definitely means a lot to me.
Second let me apologize for even asking when the board troll GSD is still here. I should have waited so half the responses weren’t complete bullshit. I stand behind my evaluation of him.
As far as my son he isn’t planning on a lifetime in the military yet but he’s a highly motivated individual and he’s one of those kids that are hyper focused on his goals. For that reason it wouldn’t surprise me if he did stay long term. The reason he was looking into the military is because college is going to be financially tough for him to accomplish without some kind of help. His main interest at this point is eventually getting into some kind of advanced law enforcement like cyber crime or something in that area rather than being a local cop. Several of his recruiters have told him that the military is the way to go for that type of career even if he wants to be a state cop. I just find it hard to believe them because I’m not sure if they are just trying to pad their numbers or just want him because he’s a really athletic, motivated and smart kid who would make a good soldier in any branch. Again thanks to everyone. I’d show him the thread and let him read it on his own but GSD ruined that. I guess I’ll weed through the bullshit and give him the bullet points.

Never served. They wouldn't have me because of my record and neck tatts. Tried different recruiters all said can get a waiver all ended up with expunge he record and neck tats to high hangs outta uniform. Blah
But my advice would be to find a job inside that he can do outside. USA isn't exactly looking for a ton of mercenaries. Diesal mechanics or truck drivers. Shit like that would probly be good.

I was able to afford college afterwards. Definitely a sacrifice to serve but worth it if you don’t have student loans.
I went into military intelligence Bc I was planning on using it to help build my resume. Was going to get out and do criminal justice in college then apply for the FBI.
But while serving a fellow soldier suggested I do physical therapy as an occupation.
And that’s what I do today. Own two places.
Life’s about choices.... and it’s funny how things can turn out.
Not to mention he will qualify for a VA loan for a home. No money down.
USE the military to get ahead.
Just no infantry. They are out in the field all the time training. Cold or rain. That shit sucks.

It's does depend on what he wants to do .
If I could do it all over I do heating and air / plumbing and electrical . All three these are easy way to own your on company maybe 10 years down the road . But most kids now days don't want to do that type of work . But these jobs you can live anywhere u want to .

Yeah that's what they say. You realize America was founded off bullying, right? After what I've read about, what some would say real America, I'm not convinced of anything the government tells me. I didn't see it, didn't live it. I know what they tell us. America has always been ego driven with the whole "look what we did for you" thing going on. I'm not on board.

sounds like he would do awesome in the military, if he wants to go short term and get some schooling done then Air Force would be the best choice, they prioritize school so they will work around class schedules, all the other services are good as well, do they have space force recruiters yet?
