1” is just not accurate for most areas, it snowed for 24 hours straight on my street but snowed for 3 days more off and on with temperatures ranging from 0-20 degrees for a week. There was plenty of snow on the ground, my pool froze, my teenage daughter walked on it

The roads were 100% ice and snow, we have no plow trucks readily available, no salt trucks at all, and very few sand trucks for overpasses. Add to that the 130 car pile up and multiple bottle necked interstates through out the state. Total blackouts in some areas and rolling blackouts in others, then add the busted water pipes in addition to many multifamily places just turning water off.

Houston we have a problem is an understatement.

I used to carry around a 50 lb bag of calcium chloride and a shovel in my trunk. Same chemical that raises calcium hardness in a swimming pool also is SUPER effective for melting ice. I did have to use it one time when the salt trucks were behind.

Anyway sounds like the city just isnt prepared for worse case scenario.

I could have used some of that since I had to break holes in the ice to aid in preventing plaster damage while it was frozen. The old saying goes “if you dont like the weather in Texas, wait 10 minutes” I wore a t-shirt and light sweat pants to the park today, it was sunny and 70 degrees all day! hahaha
