So I have a legit question cause I’m honestly a bit confused.

Are these stimulus checks a good thing or a bad thing? I read an article by Ellon Musk recently where he explained that they would have been a good thing had all the money put aside for the checks actually went to all the people rather than a bunch of groups that had nothing to do with it. He said if that had happened every person in the US would have received something like 7k a piece rather than the 1400 given to just certain Americans falling in the financial classes proposed each of the last two times. Any truth to that as well?

Well it's sort of complicated. A stimulus "package" is what they are called because when the bill is introduced it has many things the money is earmarked for. So the bill sets aside say a trillion dollars. out of that 50% goes to the people and then other lawmakers try to tack on what they want some of that money to go to such as foreign investment or foreign aid. Basically to get the entire bill passed lawmakers have to compromise because if they say all money should go to the american people then other lawmakers won't vote for its passage if they don't get whatever cut they want diverted to there cause. It's more complicated than that but the general gist of it. So Elon isn't wrong in saying if you took the total and divided it up between just the amount of people that qualify for it unfortunately the total package is divided up among many causes not just the main one. The media will tout it as an american stimulus package but it probably contains more money for Pakistani transgender studies and other bullshit like that.

Is it a good idea? Pros and cons for it on both sides. Unfortunately some of the money goes to things that have nothing to do with helping the american people and that in my opinion is bad no matter what it's for.
 
Thank you for really explaining that. So my next question probably can’t be answered but when it’s for the American people because some are in trouble WTF would our politicians try and crowbar in other groups to receive money. Couldn’t they do that at another time?
