Your first car

Guessing on the year but I believe it was a 1987 or 1988 model Buick Regal

Depending on your money situation, I dont see issues with dropping 5k to 8k on a reliable used car.
Am I cheap? Seems like I see a lot of kids in new cars these days. I know not all the parents are loaded so others are deep in credit.
If you were to buy your son or daughter their first car, what would it be? I still remember my first one.
Do you remember yours?

My first car was a hand me down. 1994 Ford Taurus.. a real show stopper.. my first real car I purchased was a black 2002 Camaro SS ... I totaled it less than 6 months doing doughnuts and hit a light pole. No Dui, just being a hot head with a fast car... Got me laid alot tho - true story

I bought a 93 bmw 525i 4dr it was solid but a beater, my dad decided to sell it out from under me like the 3 other vehicles after that just cause he could since I was 16-18..now I have a fairly nice late model c230 amg 6spd probably sell it and get a newer vette.. if I had a kid I'd get them either something safe and economical or a cool older vehicle that would go up in value (they may wreck it tho,or some asshat wreck into them) keep in mind police look for kids in certain vehicles to give them a hard time..

My first was a 1966 Mustang ...wrecked it and I bought a 1968 camaro, loved that car so much I wish I still had it today :/ I bought my daughter an Infiniti Q50 for her 17th birthday, the safety factors are what sold me. That and I got a heckuva (I bought during covid19 quarantine) deal. I bought the first car they sold in 60 days! haha

1984 GMC pickup.

Really solid truck after my father and I did some restoring which I paid for by working at the local feed store and mom and pop gas station for three summers.

Bucket seats, two Rockford Fosgate tens behind the seats, all power windows and locks fixed, full fresh paint with minimal bondo, 383 stroker with a turbo 400, American racing wheels.

Was an amazing truck. Kept it until the recession and then sold it to pay for Christmas that year when my wife and I were in bad shape financially.

My twins start driving in December and we got my daughter an 08 Nissan Altima. 240k miles, all leather (great condition) , sun roof, transmission was rebuilt 40k miles ago, no body damage. We got my son an 04 Dakota that's in decent shape as well but needs a power steering pump and the horn fixed.

Good first cars imo.

Get Shredded!
I had an 85 chevy cavalier. Bought it at 15. Didn't have a license, no registration, nothing. I was driving that around with a fake plate, to school, sports practices, for a solid year before my mother caught me out and made me sell the car.

That car was hideous, but man we had so much fun. Funny at that age how little things can make you happy, like just driving to mcdonalds and grabbing fries w ur friends. Now all we all do is work and work and work just to live.

1980 GMC Truck was my first official set of wheels. Lost the ol' virginity in that. Ah, that takes me back... Damn that seat cover was rough on knees.

I learned to drive in a beast like this though (except it was blue):

I had a 1984 Porsche 944 that had 190k miles and cost my dad $2600. I totalled it after 3mos and got a 1991 300zx for about $4500 and it didn't last much longer. The reverse dropped and we ended up selling it for like $2200. This was all between the ages of 15-16, in 00'-01'.

I scored a really great deal on the 13 year old car. It was clean & rust free.

A little sad story about my first vehicle.
My dad worked his off on tinting my car for me after I brought it home. Back then you could only tint the rear and back two windows. Everything checked out for which our state law required for window tinting. However, my mom took me for my drivers test at the DMV and the butthole driving instructor refused to allow me to perform the driving test until I removed, what he deemed, to be “illegal” tint. This was of course B.S. and he would not listen to anything I had to say and said remove it or no license. Well, being an impatient 16 year old I chose to remove the tint instead of coming back another day and hopefully getting a more informed tester. Needless to say my dad was pissed off about my decision to remove the tint. He did do a really great job. Professional quality for the late 90’s.

1989 ford escort. Rebuilt the engine and drove it primarily in winter time. It served it's purpose. My second car was my summer hot rod 81 buick regal with a nasty 350. Wish I never got rid of that car.

I had a hand me down sport trac then saved up for a maxima that I topped out at 120. Knowing me at 16-21, I wouldnt put mine in anything but a 4 cylinder. I don't have kids though thank the good Lord.

That's crazy, lol. Reminds me of my adventures on getting my license. I failed my first driving test because I didn't slam on the breaks hard enough in my dad's minivan. I didn't take the Porsche because I wasn't super good at driving a 5-speed yet. Of course I was upset and I'm not sure who's idea it was but we ended up going to another DMV and I failed that one too, loll. Finally we went to one more DMV that same day and I finally passed.

Mine was a 1979 Chevy Pickup Truck. 7” lift with 35’s. I can’t count how many times we used it to take a barrel of beer and a bunch of chics deep into the woods for parties. Yup I’m a hick and I love it!!!
