What People Don't Tell You About Fasting And Cutting Fat

Toney Freeman goes into detail about diet trends, fasting, and the truth about how to cut fat.

Toney Huge has changed a lot of his diet and health habits after retiring from competitive bodybuilding. He now focuses more on keeping fat off and cutting fat rather than building massive muscle. He also cares more about overall health beyond just what the body looks like. That’s why he started implementing intermittent fasting and fasted cardio into his diet and exercise regimen. Intermittent fasting has been trending for a few years now – but Freeman admits that many people are doing it the wrong way. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Toney Freeman explains the reality behind using fasting and cardio to really help with cutting fat.

Toney Freeman makes one thing clear during our conversation about dieting and cutting fat. There is a world of difference between how a bodybuilder cuts down on fat and how a regular person cuts fat. Bodybuilders treat their bodies more like machines. Each and every day is an attempt to work towards perfecting the body into a perfect physique. This often involves bulking and cutting.

The thing is, many bodybuilding fans are not directly bodybuilders themselves. A lot of fans of the sport simply enjoy the competitions and the physiques but maintain somewhat normal lives themselves. That’s why it’s also important to promote healthy ways of staying trim and maintaining overall health.

During our recent video conversation with Toney Freeman, we asked him about a few trending diets including the keto diet and intermittent fasting. He agreed that both of these tactics were great ways of creating a more healthy lifestyle – but that there were also misconceptions in the public about how exactly to do it.

Toney Freeman thinks that while the keto diet is certainly healthy in the short term, it’s not a healthy way of maintaining your diet overall. He actually thinks that any trending “named” diet is a bit overblown. Yes, many of these can help kickstart healthy habits, but they are not the be-all end-all of how to maintain your eating habits.

Freeman admits that he mostly eats whatever he wants. He naturally enjoys healthier foods, so that’s important, but he also doesn’t micromanage every ingredient he puts in his body. The reason for this is because he intermittent fasts.

But of course, many people have started jumping on this trending diet fad as well. The problem is that they don’t look into the details about how to actually make it a sustained healthy lifestyle choice. For those looking to lose weight, it’s best to combine this with fasted cardio. Specifically, fasted cardio at the start of the day. What’s most important is to not immediately break your fast after cardio.

This is because fasted cardio won’t start burning calories right away. It simply kick starts the process for burning throughout the day. That’s why if you eat carb heavy meals shortly after a fasted cardio session, you will essentially undo the processes you kicked off in the first place.

Toney Freeman believes that best practice is to fast overnight and through the morning. Don’t bother with breakfast and make your first meal after 11am or noon. At the very least, this is what Freeman has being doing for himself personally in recent years.
