Kaempferia parviflora, a supplement for your six-pack
If you give people with a generous amount of body fat a capsule with Kaempferia parviflora every day, their body weight will not change much. But the effect of Kaempferia parviflora on the midsection fat reserves is of a different order, researchers from Maruzen Pharmaceuticals in Japan discovered. [maruzenpcy.co.jp]
Study
The researchers divided 76 Japanese people aged 20-65 with more body fat than was good for them into 2 groups. For 12 weeks, they gave subjects in one group a placebo every day, and subjects in the other group a capsule containing 150 milligrams of Kaempferia parviflora every day.
The product the researchers used was manufactured by Maruzen. 8 percent of the extract consisted of polymethoxyflavones such as 5,7-dimethoxyflavone.Results
The subjects who used Kaempferia parviflora lost half a kilogram of body weight, the subjects in the other group lost half of that. However, those differences were not significant.
However, the effects of the extract were significant in the subjects' midsection. The supplement showed that the body lost its body fat, scans showed. Both subcutaneous fat and visceral fat disappeared.
Side effects did not occur. The supplement did reduce the concentration of triglycerides in the blood, but hey. You can live with that.
Conclusion
The Japanese conclude that "Kaempferia parviflora extract could be a useful and safe food for preventing obesity and the development of obesity-related metabolic disorders".
