its ridiculous that they report how awesome south koreas response was, the whole countrys population is that of the state of california, its one major city is like the size of sacramento nothing on the scale of NY or LA, plus they make the tests there, what a joke, media is fucking retarded
Sacramento?
This actually came up (Seoul population) a few days ago because Trump was claiming it had 38 million people, kinda the extreme opposite end of the spectrum from your own claim.
Sacramento is small, Seoul and NYC are both huge.
Rough numbers for city and metro:
Sacramento -- 500,000 --- 2,000,000
NYC ------- 9,000,000 -- 20,000,000
Seoul ---- 10,000,000 -- 26,000,000
I double-checked the figures and turns out my NYC stats were spot on... yeah I'm that sort of geek. Used to live there too, so.
Anyway, Seoul is huge. NYC is also huge but Seoul is bigger by any measurements.
And their reactions and outcomes to this pandemic were A+, legit. It's worth emulating. Yes they may be making their own tests and had the foresight to be prepared, to not brush off the initial alarms from China, etc, but all of that is admirable. Shouldn't we be making our own tests, masks, and other equipment as well, and stockpiling them for emergencies? I'm sure we will now. The main reason we don't make that stuff however is simple greed of the corporate class (cheaper to outsource all that to China et al.) and doing any sort of costlier domestic production would cost more, require more taxes and more gov't, and we've had 40+ years of corporate and political fighting against those exact things. Maybe things will change after a few hundred thousand fatalities. Cheap stuff and low taxes aren't always the top priority.
How is S. Korea doing now with covid-19? Far better than us.
This site is actually the best place to get daily updates on world covid-19 status. Financial Times is headquartered in London.
