Curcumin Ends Achy Knees

This natural substance works as well as ibuprofen to stop knee pain but without the bad side effects.

Weight lifting presents a paradox to damaged and achy knees. On one hand (or knee), weight training strengthens the muscles and ligaments that surround the funky knee, thereby protecting it from damage. However, all that lunging, squatting, pressing, and extending causes wear and tear on the cartilage.

Not only that, but every ounce of muscle you gain puts a huge cumulative load on the knee joints. Let's say you gained 10 pounds of muscle in the last year and you take, on average, 10,000 steps a day. That's an extra 100,000 pounds or so of cumulative pressure your two knees have to divvy up each day.

Most lifters address the achy-knee problem with chondroitin and glucosamine, but they soon figure out that the beneficial effects of those compounds, if any, are woefully modest. With no other recourse, most hit the ibuprofen bottle (Advil or Motrin). Too bad, because they should be using "golden magic powder," also known as curcumin.

Any Proof Behind That Bold Statement?
Curcumin, the main active constituent of the spice, turmeric, has a long, storied history as a pain killer, but most scientific studies investigate its theoretical effects on pain. In other words, scientists know, through their research, that curcumin disables certain enzymes that ordinarily lead to the production of inflammatory chemicals that are associated with pain.

However, a recent study conducted by Indian scientists tested the real-world effects of curcumin on knee pain. They recruited 331 people, all of who had osteoarthritis in their knees, and put them on either 1200 mg. of ibuprofen or 1500 mg. of turmeric. Each subject filled out a questionnaire on multiple occasions during a 4-week period to measure his or her knee pain (the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index).

The people who used turmeric (curcumin) reported just as much of a reduction in pain and stiffness as those using ibuprofen. Functioning of the knees improved equally in both groups. Those using turmeric, however, experienced less bloating and stomachache and less wear and tear on the liver.

The scientists who conducted the pain relief study prepared their own turmeric extracts by grinding C. domestica rhizomes into powder and then processing it with ethanol to obtain a semisolid with a fairly high (between 75% and 85%) yield of curcuminoids, the active turmeric agent.

As good as their preparation was, it didn't overcome the one consistent problem associated with using turmeric/curcumin as a supplement – poor absorption. The human body just doesn't absorb the stuff really well. Consequently, you have to take large amounts in order for it to have a chance of working, and the larger the amount you take, the more chance for a whole litany of digestive problems (dyspepsia, nausea, loose stools, abdominal distension, etc.).

Therefore, to stop achy knees (and almost any other kind of pain that afflicts the body), look for a high-yield curcumin product that contains piperine, an extract of pepper that increases curcumin absorption by 2000%.

Interesting. I've recently started taking circumin and I've noticed I have a lot less pain in my shoulder and elbows. I'm taking it for it's cardiac benefits but I guess this is a benefit I could use too

Wll curcumin (and turmeric) help with tendinitis??? I been plagued by patellar tendinitis in my left knee for a good while now and it's gotten harder to squat. Gonna pick up some in the health food store near me.

Per Dante, the Life Extension brand bio-circumin is a high quality one. I've found his advice on quality to be pretty spot on so that's what I've been using

It might be helping my tendinitis issues. Since I've been taking it it seems to be getting better overall

I will check them out as I got blood work done thru them in the past.

I bought some on Amazon a few weeks back. I had terrible wrist pain. After approximately 4 weeks at 800mg a day I’m damn near pain free. When I did bench press my wrists would hurt for days. I don’t have that now.

When you buy it make sure it has black pepper in it. The
Body will digest it better

I just bought the 1000mg caps with berperine (sp?) and turmeric at Walmart...picking it up tomorrow. So 1 cap a day should be fine?

Yes 1 cap per day would be fine. I split my dose into morning and evening. It's been a game changer for me. My wrists hurt so bad I was having to train completely different. It effected everything. I have a punching bag too that when I hit it even with wraps on I'd hurt for days after. I'd have to say I'm about 80% pain free now.

Awesome and can’t wait for my order to come in so that I can soon be able to enjoy leg day again!

I just upped my dose to 2 caps daily. My brachialis tendinitis seems to be going down, not sure about my elbow yet but it kinda feels better than normal doing my second upper day yesterday. I have been using BPC on the brachialis issue but not on the elbow...

Got mine on the way as well. I have had issues with tendinitis in my knees off and on for awhile now.

Yes it sucks as it's painful to even flex my knees and had to give up squats for now due to the pain. Can't wait to get my curcumin...got the 1500mg caps that has turmeric as well.

CopperFit knee sleeves help to some extent but not enough.

This stuff is fantastic, its one of the few hippie dippie cures that I swear by.
It doesn't do inflammation as well as Ibu but it is better for killing pain, seriously great stuff.
My elbows were shot to shit from slinging cider blocks all day and it helped quite a bit more that Meloxicam alone. I do stack it with NSAID's usually though.

I've been amazed over the years at how much "hippie dippie" shit has been vindicated by science. That includes some basic stuff we live by around here, like: Processed foods are shit. Sugar is shit. Avoid pesticides & herbicides. Weed is much healthier than tobacco & alcohol. Eat some dirt.

Ok I maybe added one or two in there, but the point stands. Ignore the Hippie Dipshits at your peril, lol.

Isn't this true. It's coming to light that many traditional Chinese and ayurvedic cures are effective. Look at astragalus for kidneys. Its turning out to be a chance at avoiding dialysis, but good help you if you talk to a nephrologist about it. They'll swear up and down that it's impossible to improve kidney function

Okay got my curcumin and taken one cap which is a huge one so had to take it with water to go down.
