$77 million in cocaine seized in largest NJ bust in years

About 3,200 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $77 million was seized at a New Jersey port — the biggest such bust in 25 years, authorities said Monday.

The massive stash was hidden in a shipping container that arrived at Port Newark on Feb. 28. But a search revealed 60 packages containing a white, powdery substance — which later tested positive for cocaine.

The seizure was the port’s second-largest for cocaine and the biggest since May 1994, according to Troy Miller, US Customs and Border Protection’s director of New York field operations.

CBP made the bust along with the US Coast Guard, Homeland Security Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the NYPD and New York State Police.

“Cocaine, New York’s nemesis of the ’90s, is back — indicating traffickers’ push to build an emerging customer base of users mixing cocaine with fentanyl,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Ray Donovan. “This record-breaking seizure draws attention to this new threat and shows law enforcement’s collaborative efforts in seizing illicit drugs before it gets to the streets and into users’ hands.”

The drugs were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.

In 1994, the feds uncovered around 6,600 pounds of cocaine inside a shipment of roofing material that came into Port Newark. Three men — all natives of Colombia — were arrested.

Says about 3200 pounds found... should say around 3400 pounds. Which was probably what it was before the cops whacked up their personal stash.

Party in jersey anyone?

Bet the cops took 3000lbs and left 400lbs in the evidence room.

1.5 tons would fit nicely in a van.

That's more like $52mil at a high price sold by the zip lol. Nice inflation though

looks like some mofos are gonna get wacked for this fuck up

And considering it isn't going to be sold by the zip its not even close to $52 million.

A haul like that would be sold 1-5kg at a time, at least.

Exactly lol. End value? Probably after being stepped on 5 times. Not even close to actual though.

Still a shitload of blow

why is the coke now a days being cut with fentanyl? heard it on tv. doesn't make sense to cut it with a synthetic opiate drug, right ?????

No idea other than to get people really high. If someone knows what it feels like they'll not be duped easily. That's as dumb at people cutting benzos into it. More like they're faking coke with some actives to fool ignorant kids

With how dangerous fentanyl the people who package it don't properly dose the fentanyl and that's why we have all these deadly OD's. A very good reason we need to fight this epidemic.

it’s a modern day ‘speedball’. See belushi and Farley.

the glory days it was heroin and coke in a syringe. It’s dumb but if you ever tried it and didn’t die you’d understand the draw. It’s as close to feeling like god a man could ever get....

What is ridiculously krazy is that heroin is powerful enough but adding in fentanyl which is up to 50x stronger than it to the mix. Thats like playing Russian roulette with 5 slugs in the revolver and 1 empty lol best scenario i could think of at the moment

Fent is what's causing these OD's as it's way stronger than plain heroin plus the fact whoever cuts the heroin with fent doesn't dose it properly. My state has had about 1,000 OD's (with roughly 800 resulting in death) last year alone because of that nasty shit.

This is where we need to address.

Big pharma and doctors are to blame. People get prescribed painkillers for a fucking hang nail these days. Hospitals are drug pushers

Yup a lot of truth to that.

This all started with the Oxycontin boom in the late 90's and 2000's.

Not anymore, there has been a serious crack down in the last year or so. Most pain clinics are slashing scripts or not filling them altogether. Unfortunately this will drive folks to the street.

Maybe where you live. My girlfriend was a social worker for a long time in a large city and EVERYONE in that realm has a script for pain killers...everyone

They practically give the shit away. No money to be made with healthy people
