Get Shredded!
Been on a cut for almost 3 months now. Its that time of the year where I even hate the sight of meat.
I wanted to ask, what difference does it make if my protein comes from liquid sources like whey or casein. Isn't protein just protein ? If im hitting my daily target. Does it matter ?

I hear most people say to eat whole food when on a cut. It keeps you full longer.
I don't feel hungry either.

Digestion I believe.

animal proteins take longer to completely digest (roughly 36 hours) vs your average protein shake (8 hours)

i could also also be completely full of shit..... ask oldschool

Digestion issue can be sorted by taking different kind protein powder. Like casein.
You can also take 1 every 4 hour.
There must he some other catch.

Absorption and Bio-availability is the difference.

Of course liquids absorb faster then solids, so that is one benefit. But it also depends on what specific type of protein you are ingesting.

Also think, nutrient timing. This is why some people use blends of different proteins. I use a product called Problend. It contains whey, casein, hydrolized protein and egg protein. So I have my fast, moderate and slow absorbing proteins all in one. So my body is getting a more stable supply of protein over a period of several hours. This results in a better overall gain in muscle.

Also don't forget about Hydrolized proteins. There are some that are partially hydrolized. There are full hydrolized proteins. (pre-digested) Think Pepto-pro for instance. These are superior to whole food proteins as they do not require Digestion. They are composed of di-peptides and tri-peptides and they are pre-digested. Immediately effective in the bloodstream and they also spike Insulin levels. These cost $50bucks up per pound.

We used them in the hospital to help heal diseased patients, patients post surgery as well as pediatrics.

There is another catch. See post #3.
Theres a difference in keratin and a whole protein containing all essential amino acids which is digestable and bioavailable. Good try though.
If you find finger nails and hair disgusting can always go for silk.

There is certainly a difference, but both will meet FDA testing standards for the nutrition label, so good luck knowing what you are getting, and the odds are against you (much worse than a casino). High quality protein is usually much lower than what appears on the label. Without access to sophisticated testing, you simply have no idea. Most producers purchase raw materials from the same suppliers and put their own marketing spin on it.

Labdoor.com is testing on supplements to check their protein content and quality. If you haven't checked them before. Have a look. It compares major brands in industry. Performs actual lab tests on them.
