When I am hammering legs I get best results and never get injured using pyramid sets.

For example leg press:

4 plates-25 reps
6 plates -20 reps
8 plates-18 reps
10 plates-15 reps
12 plates-12 reps
14 plates-10 reps
16 plates-6-8 reps

I have gotten good results and no injuries using this method.

Previously I would try starting out with heavier weights and ended up injured, even when I warmed up first.
Some times i pyramid like this then last 2-3 sets are decreasing weight.
