Abscess, Infection, Surgery - a (bad) true story!

Hi everyone.


today unfortunately I would like to share a story not too beautiful.
Yes, I think that these should also be shared so that we can learn from the others' "mistakes" and not commit them we too.

As the title,
I had an abscess on my leg, which subsequently became infected and eventually, in order not to lose my leg, I went to the hospital to do a surgical
operation.

The doctors opened and drained me all the crap. More and more times and all whitout anesthesia. An absurd evil pain that I do not wish for anyone.
I was hospitalized for 10 days.
I was attached to an "aspirator" machine (Negative-pressure wound therapy).
and I was treated with oxygen in a hyperbaric chamber.
I lost about 20 lb in 10 days in the hospital.
While I was in hospital, I was able to reflect.
I realized how much my injections have changed since I was inexperienced and novice.
At first nothing was ever too much. Prudence and sterilization were my first thought. I was methodical and very attentive to everything.
Now, however, I reuse the syringes, sometimes I also reuse the needles if I know that I have to do two injections a day (morning and evening), if
something falls to the ground I collect it and use it anyway.
Sometimes I do not use the disinfectant, or I do not step on the stopper of the bottle.
In short, hygiene and sterilization have passed into the background. Sometimes the rush, sometimes the thought "but you do not need much" "yes, but
what do you want it to be, nothing has ever come" ... and instead at the end even I almost lost a leg for an injection .. one injection... ONLY one
injection.

Morale is, be careful! be cautious! sterilize, sterilize, sterilize!

Second point, for me it was also hard, when you see that something is wrong, do not wait too long to ask for help and go to the hospital.
I could have gone at least two days before, but I'm not a guy asking for help so easily, I never went to the hospital before and I then delayed the
decision.
I have apologized and risked really to the end.
Do not do like me. at the first signs of an infection that you can not treat yourself, run to the hospital and face what you have to deal with either
before or after. better trouble with justice and with a few doctors but still with his leg (or other limb where the infection is) attacked rather
than being without a limb and still have to face the issue.

I took some photo, not really many because they certainly were not my priority.
Maybe, if I can, I will do others when I take off my medications.
If you want I can post them, but they are not for the weak of the stomach.

I also got an abscess maybe 3 or 4 years ago now. I got mine from dirty sponsor that use to be here. They once had good gear, then got too big for their britches. Their rep knew what was going on, but like your typical salesmen he tried to place the blame on me. He even went as far as to have a guy who tests food do a stupid test on their gear to try to show it was good quality. They put on quite the show. When that didn’t work, the rep, xsbobber was his name, went on the deny train and acted like he knew nothing about what was going on. Even though I was the 4th person to get and infection. Well, mine was an abscess.

I took myself to the hospital to find out I had a sterile abscess. They ended up removing it but I still have a knot in my shoulder where it was. It feels like a small golf ball in there. It’s right where the delt and bicep conjoin. The pain was terrible when it was going on and my arm from my shoulder to slightly passed my shoulder was swollen. I wasn’t hospitalized for 10 days or put in a chamber, I think we have different medical practices where I’m from. But it was still a fucked up situation that I don’t wish on anyone. Abscesses aren’t something to fuck around with. If they burst, they can kill you. If you think you have one, go get it checked out. If you get an infection, go get it checked out. If you’re scared because you’re pinning steroids and think they’re going to get you pinched, don’t worry about it. They aren’t going to do anything to you accept get you better. They deal with drug addicts on the regular and they don’t arrest them for an over dose or an heroin addict coming in with blown out veins and infections. But if you’re scared, just tell them you’re prescribed trt. They don’t check. But it’s important to inform them of the truth of the drug you put into your body.

Thanks for sharing and hope you have a speedy recovery. I cringe every time guys say "it's no big deal" when it comes to being safe with their injections. It only takes a few seconds to swab alcohol, aspirate, or grab another pin if you drop one. I've got a buddy that reuses syringes and I'm waiting for the day he has a story like yours. And like you said, it only takes ONE time. We may not be able to be 100% safe, but we should at least try to be as safe as possible.

Hoping you have a speedy recovery Phill. Alot to think about as i reuse slin pins a few times each, but i sterilize needle and stopper both times. Might start using them once. This sounds like really bad experience that i dont want to go through. Rather spend $20 on more slin pins than all that. Thanks for your story sir.

bacteria can still get inside the needle. Not a good idea at all to re use pins. Swabbing the needle doesn’t clean the inside.

Makes sense to keep some antibiotics on hand.

What kind did they use with you? Any idea?

Damn that’s not a good thing to go through, I’ve had what I assume was a clean abscess on my right glute from the wife pushing the oil in to quickly and it’s been 2 weeks and it’s 3/4 gone. I did monitor it very closely watching for infection, fever, increased soreness, and so on luckily it did not infect.

i was always scared to reuse anything, even the barrel. Cheap as pins are I can’t see the need to reuse and risk an infection, just my 2 cents.

Jesus some of you reuse pins. In ten years I never once considered reusing a barrel or a pin.

1) Sanitize your hands first
2) Sanitize your injection site in a swirling pattern. With swirl moving outwards. Not in a left and right fashion.
3) Always use a fresh needle. Infact use two needles. 1 to draw with and the other to inject so theres minimum trauma
4) Sanitize the top of vials before drawing. They get contaminated.
5) Always buy from known sources so you dont get contaminated gear. Health care is more expensive than Gear.
6) Bend the needle immediately after injecting, so you dont even accidentally use it later.

Even if you follow all of the above, you can still suffer from a sterile abcess. Injecting has its own side effects even if you take as much care.

Most probably co amoxi-clav or augmentin as you may know it. 625 mg thrice a day or 1 gram twice a day.

Dude sorry to hear that is fuckin brutal.... I'm so anal when it comes to injections or bacteria in general..... all it takes is one little dirty bastard to multiply and ruin the party.. such as life.......

Never reused a pin. But definitely contemplated it. What gear were you using? I don’t expect an answer.

It's my first time.

I hope you a speedy recovery, that’s looks painful. I’m a bug when it come to his shit, Maybe the over cautious pinner. I even back fill my slin pins for HGH. But I’ve seen friends no prep and plung it in. I tell them to be carful, they always say it will be ok, now I’m going to show them these pics. I bet they it still won’t change their ways.

Back when I was a kid it was common for docs to reuse them. They would screw the stainless steel pin off a glass barrel and store them in alcohol until the next patient needed an inject. Getting a seriously dull needle inject sucked bad back then. You guys don't know how good you have it. Thank god for disposable needles and syringes. There is no excuse in this day and age.

back when I was a kid my pediatrician was who my parents used and was still using the glass barrels and reused dull as pins, I hated shots anyway but those bastards hurt
