Any of you folks have experience with surgery for a torn meniscus? I heard at times it can make knee issues worse.

I was supposed to have knee surgery, had a bad tare, I eneded up getting my knee drained and a cortisone shot. did some deca and trained my legs ( no squats ) on machines. never got the surgery and that was 7 years ago

Do you experience any problems still? Pain? Certain lifts you can’t do because of the knee problem? Or are you saying that you are fine and opting out of surgery was a wise decision on your part? Just curious...

Yeah. This injury is twenty years old if not more. Pain, catching, popping and fluid build up. Fluid build up is substantial, about the size of a large soft ball. No pressing movements are possible, no tread mill running for cardio, low height step ups, light deadlift, curls and extensions only. Doctor says we will start with cortisone shots. I’ll bring up the deca.

Thank you.

I’ve had 7 knee surgery’s, it’s all about the doctor, I was very lucky to have one of the best. I would fly to him in Chicago, he is the Blackhawks orthopedic surgeon. Had a few of my visits canceled as the hawks were playing for the cup and Dr. Terry always travels with them every game. But no you should not have any issues after a meniscus surgery. Do not slack on the physical therapy. You need to get back full movement or you will suffer the rest of your life. I’ve had both tibias shattered, both ACL’s and PCL’s blow, and huge meniscus tears, and I still can fully bend my knees and sit on my legs.

I had meniscus surgery. Missed only two days of work. Back to working out within a few months with barbell on my back, squatting. My ortho was very pro-exercise.

Go get it fixed.

Depends on how bad the tear is. If it is an old injury and you can control with cortisone shots on rare occasions, I would not opt for surgery. I had a slight tear in mine in my football days and got the fluid build up with associated pain. It finally settled down and went away after I gave it about a month to rest. No real knee issues since and that was also 20 years ago for me.

Stop fucking around. A meniscus will not heal. Cut out the torn part, do the rehab, and get back to squatting and build up those stick legs.

How did you know my legs are my weak spot? Ha.

I’m lucky enough to be going to University if Washington medicine. Same folks who take care of the athletes. I’m leaning towards surgery.

Thanks.

Below explains why some tears heal on their own and other do not- You need to know which type of tear you have
"A tear in the "red" zone may heal on its own, or canoften be repaired with surgery. A longitudinal tear is an example of this kind of tear. In contrast, the inner two-thirds of the meniscus lacks a blood supply. Without nutrients from blood, tears in this "white" zone cannot heal."

You made the right choice getting your surgery brother. Flex that other bicep and check out how significant that tendon is. You didnt wan't to go the rest of your life without that attached. I know i didn't

I had 5 tears from 2 separate injuries. Two were stitched and glued and three were cut out. I made a near 100% recovery but took about a year to fully recover for me. I got some pictures the surgeon took during surgery.

yeah bro, I hear you....you don't realize how inconvenient traditional doorknobs are until you tear your distal bicep tendon...I guess I didn't realize the severity of a fairly debilitating injury and its impact on everyday life, especially mental health....but I will be fine....im just kinda scared now that I know this can happen that when I do get back to fult tilt bozo im gonna be acting like a pussy about everything trying not to get injured...but either way its nice to be able to relate to people who travel a similar path in life...thank you

Bro it's nothing really. Look at people who have it worse.
You'll get 95%+ strength/function back. Just rep the curls out and focus on mind muscle connection instead of load, when you do come back. All my other pulling movements are 100%. It was actually good for me in the long run. Really forced me into a new way of training that i can pull out when i need to switch it up

I guess I got lucky, I was in some pain for several weeks seeing my primary care doc before I saw the specialist and by the time I got the mri back I already walking around again in less pain, the doctors office was a bunch of hacks and lost my mri and made other mistakes, I told the doctor if you cant keep your staff organized why would I ever agree to let you cut me open and went off to find a new doc, by the time I was about to see the new doc I was walking around pretty much like normal, so I focused on building leg strength up and 7 years later still no issues.

I agree you got lucky or did not have a major tear. The longer you let the major tears go, the more complicated the surgery will be if at all possible and your only option after waiting too long could end up being stem cells.

MRI report is in. No surgery, but... I have three grade one injuries. Torn and frayed meniscus, torn MCL, torn Patella with chronic and acute tendinosis, (not nitis), bone chips, and multiple soft and hard tissue edema’s. I know I’m 49 and getting old, and played a good amount of ball, along no with 32 years in the restaurant biz. I’m Getting fucking old. Leg work out? Body weight 10” step ups and the stationary bike. Ugh. Young ones, take it easy for nice in awhile.

Metemucile time, peace.

Hit it hard with cortisone and maybe some npp or deca maybe a little gh. Is what I've heard from most of the guys in your age bracket. Maybe a gh secretagogue with another peptide. These are all suggestions and not a sure fire fix. But surgery is a hell no I raped my rotator cuff at 25 got surgery and just am now getting feeling back in my pinky and ring finger at 28.

Sarm wise you have mk 677 paired with any of the grhp rc's that are offered. But mk 677 and ghrp 6 has been what I've been told works best for cardalidge. I'm sure adding another pep couldn't hurt. But couple those with a therapeutic dose of gh. I'm sure you'll feel much better with a corticosteroid to. I'd run it for about 2 or 3 months and gauge it from there.
