For clients who have fasting periods in their programming for whatever reason. (increasing insulin sensitivity, increasing dietary adherence, using drugs that accelerate FFA mobilisation, reduce systemic stress of constant mTOR stimulation to mention just a few reasons), I do like to incorporate stimulants where the situation suits.

We have all seen the anecdote that stimulants curb appetite, increase energy when there is little substrate available etc, however, here is some research that could shed some light on why their is a synergy between stimulants and fasting.

Intake of a stimulant, and relevant increase in dopamine significantly reduced caloric intake in mice.

In a higher frequency feeding pattern however, although per meal intake was less, overall intake remained the same.

Therefore, dopamine both encourages to begin eating, as well as satiation.

This could provide some insight as to why stimulant use works so well in intermittent fasting models, but not so much with a higher meal frequency model.

Adderrall gives me munchies. 3-4 hours after taking them I'm starving and redosing doesn't change that.

You've already answered your own question. Stimulates help release more fatty free acids into the blood stream for energyand this can only happen with your insulin levels are low, aka fasting or low carb intake.

I have never seen any stimulants working under the DA pathway as described in this literature causing increased mobilisation of FFA's. Have you got any papers to hand I could read on this?

Used to eat pizzas while smoking meth. I'm a weirdo. I mean I can choose not to eat, but if I do eat (and I do) it is A LOT.

You are. When I used to do it multiple days in a row, I could never eat until about 24-36 hours in, then I didn't have a problem continuing to eat. I usually had to force myself to eat when I feel the felt the first cramp start.

I find that fasting while on stimulants makes me cranky. Not eating in general leads to bad mood in my case and the stimulants just enhance the feeling.
