Hey guy. Been reading here sometimes but just joined. I am doing trt and have been for about two years. I have had 3 back surgeries so I take a lot of pain meds to function and not lay out on ssi. About two years ago my dr brought to my attention that my meds may tank my testosterone and since I had been loosing strength and muscle mass for a while I had them check. Turn out my test level was at 73. You read that right 73. Dr said it should be between 800 and 1000. So they had me on gel for a while. Didn’t work. Couldn’t break a level of 200. So then I switched to shots. 200mg once a month. Tested after 6 months or so and was at 360 something. So for the last 9 months maybe I have been doing 200mg shot every Friday. Well I had some blood work don’t on wed and they called today and said he noticed my test was at 1066 and wanted me to drop down to once a month again. I really don’t like that idea. By the way I had just taken the shot Sunday or Monday night so 2 or 3 days before blood was drawn. I finally have energy back and and starting to get my strength back. The blood work was for something else but I had them check anyway. The last few months I will randomly wake up and have sever pain in my leg muscles and be very weak. It last for two or three days and nothing done to cause it. I don’t want to go back to that low of a number so I’m going to ask him to not change it. If he insist do you guys think I can keep decent levels at every other week or do you think it will tank again.

What? Take one shot a month? Is this a family practitioner?

That will not work.

Dr. B

Yes he sent me to a urologist which was treating me. They decided to no longer take my anthem so he just continued the regimen. I was haven’t the blood work for another reason and asked them to check just to see because when I was doing shots every other week it was still low so this would be my first test since I went weekly. I have my appt for him on Thursday and I am going to ask him not to change it since this was 2 days after a shot and I’m finally starting to feel like the shots are working. I’m starting to get some of my muscle and strength back. I don’t want to loose that.

Try to convince him to at least drop the dose to 100mg every Friday. That should keep you under 1000...but much higher than the once a month shot and not to mention more stabile blood levels

Yea that could work. I’m assuming that since it was two days after the shot it was a tad higher than what my floating average is. I could be wrong on that as I don’t know much about it. What I do know is that I don’t want to go back to feeling like I did before not to mention my girl is thoroughly pleased that it’s back up. When I dropped so low I wasn’t interested in doing anything with her most of the time and when I did it was nothing like I used to be able to do. She is the main one that pushed me to get it checked in the first place. The thought was kind of embarrassing.

Every 2 weeks is garbage. So is once a month. Minimum of weekly but it's better to split the shots into bi weekly so the hormone fluctuation isn't there. The next time you schedule bloodwork schedule as close to you next shot as possible. Doctors these days kill me. All the info in the world and still don't know shit

I would try to convince him.

Tell him you do not feel well with his protocol, that you're better off with more frequent injections (as other people already explained).

If he does not accept (stupid doctor, he should look for the best for you, not only standard protocol): FUCK HIM.

Try hearing another doctor.
Or remain with your protocol. You can find test everywhere without prescription.

Get with Dr.B (Entourage Hormones - on this board) for your Trt and quit trying to get your PCP to do something he's not trained or qualified to do.
Problem instantly solved.
Good luck.

i see him Thursday of this week. I am going to explain to him that it was 2 days after a shot and from everything I can find online from trt clinics and medical websites they say to test 8 to 10 days after the shot or it can test higher than what your average really is. I did not take my shot over the weekend so hopefully if he wants to retest it will be lower and he can leave me alone about it. It’s hard for me to work out with all the injuries and pain I deal with but I’ve lost 20 pounds or so in the last 6 months and am getting my strength back so I was hoping to start working out a little bit. I’m sure the trt will help rebuild some of that muscle back up. I wrestled and played football in high school. Worked out 8 hours a day for years. People used to say I had super human strength. I’d like to get back to feeling strong again and not like a broken old man at 30 years old.

That may be what I end up having to do if I can’t get him to leave it alone. I was hoping to avoid the added expense though. My insurance covers the doc and test right now. Not really in the cards for me now since my girl is not working. Schools about to start so she will be going back to work but we will see what happens.

IML Gear Cream!
Agreed!

Leave TRT to the specialists who practice this everyday...

I just use my Dr for $20 blood work. I do what I know is right. He wants me two inject 200 mg twice a week. F that. Do what feels best for you. I had to spend my own money on blood tests in the beginning from privatemdlabs but once I saw what my levels were I never switched the protocol and the Dr doesn't know a thing.

200 twice a week? Are your levels that low? That sounds like a lot if 200 a week got me from 74 to 1066

Damn my bad I was on no sleep when I typed that. He wants me to inject 200mg once every two weeks. I inject 100mg once a week. That puts me in the 600's but 200mg split into two doses a week puts me in the very low 800's. I prefer 200mg split into bi weekly injections. I feel better there

Keeping levels around 1000ng/dl is what we call the "Sweet spot". This is where most patients feel the best and really get the benefits from therapy. We try and keep every patient around this number. Most require 200mg weekly to accomplish this. Splitting into bi-weekly injections is always a good ideas as well due to the fact it keeps the levels more stable. Injecting once a week most patients start to crash on day 6.

Thanks for the input guys. I told him some of the stuff you guys said here and some other info I found online and he agreed to leave the dosing alone. So glad he did because I didn’t want to go back to feeling like I did before so hopefully it stays where it’s at. He said the medical standards they follow are a high of like 926 but since I plead my case I and told him my girl who also see him would be up there throwing a fit I’m good to go lol
