I never use straps. If i cant hold that weight on my own i dont deserve to lift it. Thats what i tell myself. My forearms burn with deadlifts or trap bar shrugs but its worth it.
Initially on back days my forearms used to give up before back but now they never fail on me during back. Their endurance is far greater than my back muscles due to training them with compounds and individually as well.
