Opinions on if you should train. I see alot of guys say it's a bad idea and will lose your v-taper
 
Obliques are a muscle. Weight training makes them grow. Not everyone ends up with a thick waist but most do. Anything more than stick twists, those elbow to knee ab things or obliques just getting worked as an accessory muscle is a bad idea from my experience.
 
I wouldnt work them directly unless you NEED to , ie boxer , MMa fighter , firefighter , etc...
