What is the easiest type of gear to home brew, that also has a history of good results?
 
As long as you using a tried and true recipe, all the standard compounds are of equal difficulty (or ease.)
Weigh out your powder, add in BB and BA, heat/ stir until dissolved, add in oil, heat/ stir until completely clean (no swirling) allow to cool a little, filter, and vial. Its pretty much the same steps, only variables are the BA/ BB ratio's and displacement factors for the specific compound your using.
Now water-based suspensions, those take some experience.
 
Eq can be a pain to get out of packaging and Npp doesn't like to always.hold at certain concentrate. Everything else is pretty plain and simple.
