Very attainable. I can get 20 right now and I think it was more of a stamina improvement vs strength.

For some, reps at a given weight don't carry over to 1 rep max. Mine never has and I am sure never will.
I should say I do higher reps on other chest movements. Just not so much on pressing movements other than light warmups. Usually, on my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chest movement for the day I start at about 15 and work my way down to around 6...over the course of 6 sets.
I lift with a false grip so gripping the bar hard isn't really possible. I've read false grip is the best. Just more dangerous of the bar falling on your chest. :/
Pos I'm doing almost the exact same thing...

Then there are two times that I really messed something up benching. One I did a paused set of 4 at 505 and yanked a bicep tendon...luckily didn't tear it. The second, was doing a drop set at 315 and strained a pec. Just be careful and listen to your body. I was stupid enough back then not to.
Yeah biggest mistake I have made benching...well maybe not the biggest but pretty close505... And 4 pause reps...
All I can say is holy shit.
hmm..this is my take on it...when I was younger I used to make huge jumps and not work my way up...I think you are leaving some strength gains on the table jumping 40-50 lbs at a shot. Lets say your first real working set is 315x10...why not make smaller jumps. You could go 315x8, 335x6x2, 345x5x2, 355x3. Then the following week add weight. Or forget about 315 and just do an acclimation set for 3 reps there. Then go 335x5, 345x5, 355x5, 345x3, 355x3, 365x3 Then that day if you feel like making a jump for a heavy double or single you can. The following week add 5lbs per set. I am the first to say that I am not a huge fan of drop sets on bench. Doing them on your isolation work like pec deck or cable crossovers yeah why not. The stress you put on the muscle with the heavier weights is honestly enough with out doing drop sets. My take on it...at my age I have done it a bunch of different ways including drop sets. Take it for what it is worth to ya.
Does anyone here do incline for strength? I occasionally do incline at 30 degrees and can get 315x6 on a good day. I get where incline will help with mass building and shaping...I'd like to get opinions on its place on helping flat bench 1 rep max.
I'm not really a fan of drop sets on bench either. How much do you weigh btw? I'm hoping to get 500x1 by July. My best right now is 435x2 at 173lbs. I previously did 425x1 at 155lbs with no gear.
