37 years old. 6'2. 245 lbs. Just got my blood test results. Shows Total testosterone at 180. Free testosterone is low also. I have other numbers available, but not sure what they mean. They are all in the range except the two listed. NP is recommending androgel or Axiron. I am not very receptive to either one because of having teen children and the wife who does our laundry and touches everything. I brought up injectables and she was not very receptive to that idea. Injectables seem easier and cheaper. So, then she decides to send me to a urologist for further testing after I inquired about injectables. If she doesn't want to play nicely, would self medicating be a good idea? I am new to all of this, so any info is greatly appreciated. I was leaning toward test cyp as an option. Only looking to bring my test levels back up to normal. The effects of the low test are really taking a toll on me. No motivation, nothing makes me happy, foggy thought and memory, etc. How does a newbie go about getting started? Unless I am eager to start the gels, the doc really didn't show a huge interest in me. Any help or knowledge is greatly appreciated. I am looking at possibly 125mg a week spread out into two injections. Thanks!

Same thing happen to me bud, I refused gel for simple fact I have a family. My doc asked if I would go to uro/endo and I said no problem. Showed my labs and walked out with a script.
Just stand your ground with not wanting gel. I also brought in notes and studies were children/wife were "contaminated" from gel spreading to them.
Also don't be surprised that when you start they will only have you on 1 shot a month to see how you respond. Look for studies online which show weekly injections are much better and not a hormonal roller coaster ride.

My doc is main endocrine of university of iowa set me up at 100 mg weekly. Just find a smart doctor.

Was even nice enough to switch me to test e from cyp because that's what I cycle with.

Change doctors, point blank. My original doctor was dead set against self injectable testosterone. Androgel sucks. Not sure of she was trying to "close a door" to me having access to injectable testosterone or of she jut wanted the co-pay twice a month. Either way I canned her and my new doctor could care less of I give myself a shot every two weeks

The important thing there you caught on is topicals fucking suck, refuse them, and if you do injections you want to do them E4D or Mon/Thur in english. That is how my urologist insists on it being done to keep blood levels stable. Cyp has a 6-7 day half life, if you do once a week you are on the low end of the curve days 5-7 so its not ideal. Also, some would argue this but I have done research and think if you have a good doctor who knows how to use them properly, test pellets are a great option to consider (every 4-6 months instead of twice a week). The verdict is out for me if I want to go that route yet or not but pinning all the time gets old.

I just started TRT myself. Doc gave me a choice of gels or self injections. I chose self injections and she had no problem with it. My doc is a sports medicine doc and she is awesome. I agree with others who say refuse the gels and find a doc who understands your concerns (as they are legitimate concerns) and do self injections. She prescribed Test Cyp at one injection a week and re-test after 2 1/2 months to see where I'm at and go from there. I do wish she had prescribed 2x per week as I understand the logic behind it, but she didn't so I'll take what I can get. Maybe next go around she will give me more. Good luck bro.

Def e4d with the cyp , if you end up self medicating try 80 e4d and do bloods from there just keep in mind that blood work is key to gettin that it right

Agreed, I started trt at 34 years with test cyp injected once a week. I went to an anti aging doc to get my script and my insurance pays for it, all I have is a $20 copay for a 10ml vile. Trust me bro, it makes a world of difference. It will take a few months for you to level out but you will notice a big difference in mood and sex drive the first week. I agree with what people said about pinning it every 4th day but I'm lazy so I just do it once a week. I definitely feel it losing it's effectiveness by the end of the week. I get tired, cranky, hardly any morning wood, low libido...then I pin on Saturday and it's full on porn star for the next three days! Hope you feel better and definitely choose self injection and not the gel, you won't regret it, imo.

I just started TRT about 3 wks ago. I am 66. Total T was 525 but Free T was 2, Doc wants it up to 25. Injecting 100 mg of Test C / wk. I have the same thing by the end of the week ... low low energy and etc. Thinking of pinning every 5 days with .33 cc instead of the .5 (100 mg) to see if it will level me out. How does that sound to you guys that are in the know. 2 times a week is kind of a turn off for me, LOL!

IML Gear Cream!
Find a new DR. And what that other dude said, stand your ground. DRs work for you, not the other way around.

REFUSE topicals.

Go see another doc. It's your money and you have a choice. You want 100mg a week of injectable test c/e for a decent TRT dose.

what were your estrogen levels on those labs??..525 ng/dl is pretty good at 66 yrs young...the free T being that low would point towards a rise in estrogen(conversion of T)..which is common as men age over 40...

I will be getting some more BW done a week from now. At the moment I don't know about the estrogen. Will post again after results. Thank you for your reply :)

I definitely think you need a new doctor. It seems to me that many primary care doctors are reluctant to properly treat the condition. My PCP told me my testosterone level was "perfectly normal" - it was 250. Luckily, I got a second opinion and my life has completely changed for the better. My new doctor told me that yes, 250 falls within the "normal" range, but he wanted my level to be at the upper end, around 1100. 250 was way too low and the reason I was feeling terrible. I had all of the symptoms that you mention. I'd suggest that you look for an anti-aging clinic/men's health clinic. These places specialize in bio-identical hormone treatment, fitness, and weight loss. I can just about guarantee that they will provide you with the treatment you need, because it's the core function of their business. You'll probably have to enroll in a program that provides the medication and regular blood tests, but you'll be getting the treatment you need and good follow-up care to go with it.

Also think you should change doctors. There are a lot of HRT & anti-aging places popping up. Actual doctors and insurance taken. A lot of traditional doctors & general practitioners are against TRT stating there hasn't been enough long term data gathered to for any definitive conclusions. That said, local injectable protocol (New Jersey) is 30 mg per day: Monday through Friday with 30mg of HCG on Monday, Wednesday & Friday to keep up with your natural testosterone production.

Anybody on the board from the Torrance, Redondo Beach California area? Looking for a clinic with good personal reviews near here. I think I can do better then the MD I am seeing now.

Not sure why, but I showed banned for some reason on here and haven't been able to reply. I appreciate all of the knowledge. I do have a new post to bring everyone up to date. I guess I never thought about this part of it. Here's the post:

37 years old. 6'2. 240 lbs. Back in early May I had bloodwork done to get an overall health check. I was irritable, not confident, low sex drive, no motivation, etc. Got my results.
Total testosterone
= 180 Sex Hormone Binding Globulin = 19.8 Free testosterone = 44

I have other numbers if needed.

NP recommended Androgel or Axiron. I wasn't very receptive to either one because of having teen children and the wife who does our laundry and touches everything. I brought up injectables and she was not very receptive to that idea and told me that she didn't know much about TRT. Injectables seemed easier and cheaper. So, then she decided to refer me to a endocrnologist for further testing after I inquired about injectables. The earliest he could see me was the end of August. I was really feeling low and not motivated at all. I ended up with a bottle of test cyp and self administered. I am injecting .25/ml twice a week for a total of 100mg/week. Seen a big difference. Mood, motivation, sex, etc.

I stopped about two weeks ago because I know the endocrinologist visit is coming. Thought maybe I could get an idea of what to expect being off. The last few days have been horrible. I could not make decisions, my cognitive skills were almost obsolete, I was confused on everything I did, I was very down and hopeless. I was completely lost. I took off work for two days off because I didn't feel confident in my abilities. I decided I could not take that so I re-started the injections. I definitely feel better. Not yet back to where I was yet, but definitely clearer.

Here's the dilemma: I'm scheduled to go back to my NP for a checkup tommorrow. She's not going to do any testing. I am not sure what I can discuss with either the NP or endo when discussed. I would love to be able to tell them the situation and they tell me to quit taking illegal and prescribe me TRT instead of me having to self-diagnose. It's not like I'm taking huge amounts of test. I just want to feel normal, happy, and confident. This seems to have helped tremendously. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. Am I going to have to keep going the way I am going or is there a way to go legit now? That will probably decide for me whether I keep my endo appointment or not. I will probably cancel if there is no way to come clean. I am sure if he tests me now, my tests levels would come back improved and he's not going to prescribe me anything. But, I know there is now way I can stop and go back to feeling like I did this past week. I can't afford to lose my job because I can't function correctly and make good judgement calls.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Find another doc if you have options where you live. She seems to be one of those that has it in her head that injectables are "bad news". My levels were much higher than yours, but my free test was low, and I got an injection of Test Cyp that same day, and 200 mg at that. The following week he gave me 100 mg, which I was very much disappointed about, but the protocol is one injection per week.

There was never any discussion of having to see a urologist or anyone else, nor were any test gels brought up. Your doc may have a relationship with the pharmaceutical companies that make the gel, which is why she may be pushing it so hard. Just my two cents.

If you are still having trouble with the doc's, I would recommend self medication. I have been doing just that for about three years. I finally found a doctor that would give me a prescription but found the test online much cheaper and 250/ml instead of 200 which is all I can find locally. It does take 3 to six weeks to receive it after it is ordered.
