I keep getting emails saying that someone has attempted to logon 5 times everyday to my account and have failed to get password right.
Anyone have this problem with whoever this jerk-off is?
 
Yes its happened to me. There was another thread where damaster explained what was happening.
 
Someone tried for the seconded time in 3 days today to log into my account. 188.143.235.118 is the IP address that continues to try and get in my account. Is there any way admin can block that IP from getting on the site? I looked up the IP and from what I found it says they are Russian hackers based it st Petersburg
 
They are spam bots. They use a brute force type of hack where they just guess passwords and try to log on. They're not doing it to get any information from you or the site. Their sole purpose is to log in and make spam posts to the board. Usually selling porn, knock off sneakers, jewelry, viagra etc. They also add a bunch of links to their posts so their site gets a lot of 'back links' which looks good on the search engines. The bots also try registering their own accounts and post the same stuff. But thankfully ASF has enough of a registration process that the bots can't get through that way.

Like Heavy mentioned above, just make sure you have a decent password so they can't guess it, or at least make it very difficult.

Been getting emails but with different ip adddress but similar, probably the same bots...IP address 188.143.234.114

Hey Guys just a side note.
I use a program and App called 1Password
It keeps all your pw's in 1 place, encrypts them and even generates pw's for you.
That way you never have to remember all of them or use Google to "save" them for you.
My computer guy (I'm an IT dope) told me google is very easy to crack so if you use "save password" feature it's not that safe.
Also this way you always have them available even if you are not at your desktop.
I have used for about a year and like it but again I'm not that well versed with all the computer tech stuff.
 
Yes, the IP addresses can and will change all the time in an attempt to avoid IP Blocking that some sites do. It's kind of like spitting into the wind because IP addresses are easy to change.
