This is the effect of a keto diet on Alzheimer's patients
A low-carbohydrate diet improves the memory of healthy people. Does this mean that a ketogenic diet has a positive effect on Alzheimer's patients? According to a trial published in Alzheimer's Research & Therapy, this is indeed the case. But it doesn't seem like a keto diet can mitigate the disease itself.
Study
New Zealand neurologists at Waikato Hospital experimented with 26 Alzheimer's patients admitted to their clinic.
The subjects ate a low-carbohydrate diet for 12 weeks. This consisted of 58 percent fat (32 percent unsaturated fat), 29 percent protein, 7 percent fiber and 6 percent carbohydrates. To prevent deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, the subjects took a daily supplement.

On another occasion, the subjects ate 'normally' for 12 weeks.
Results
The keto diet had no effect on scores for cognition tests.
A low-carbohydrate diet, on the other hand, did improve daily functioning, the ADCS-ADL test showed. This test measures the ability of Alzheimer's patients to perform everyday activities, such as using knife and fork while eating or operating a telephone.[FONT="]

In addition, the keto diet improved the quality of life of the subjects [QoL-AD].
