Meta-study reveals best way to lose weight by green tea supplements

Indeed, green tea is not the most spectacular weight loss supplement on the market. Compared to groovy stuff like sesamol, Gymnema sylvestre, Hoodia passiflora and Cissus quadrangularis, green tea is nothing to get excited about. On the other hand, green tea has been tried and tested in dozens of good trials - and if you aggregate these in a decent meta-study, you will see that green tea works. And how you can, when you're using green tea supplements, maximize their weight loss effect.Study
Ying Lin, a researcher at the Jinan Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, tracked 22 neatly conducted studies in the medical literature involving a total of 2,357 subjects, in which researchers had determined the supplement's effect on body weight.

Results
When Lin aggregated and re-analyzed the results of those trials, he saw that green tea could achieve a 1.78-pound weight loss.

The figures below are reduced in size. Click on them for a larger version.

Lin also found that green tea extract worked best at a daily dose of 400-500 milligrams. Higher doses worked less well. Perhaps this is because at higher doses of green tea fat cells can absorb more glucose, we suspect. The optimal duration of a slimming cure with green tea is 12 weeks, Lin further discovered.
If you rely on this study, you may be able to lose a lot more than 1.78 kilos, we conclude after studying the graphs above. Maybe ... 7 kilos?
Conclusion
"Green tea supplementation is likely to be associated with a decrease in body weight and BMI in obese patients", the researchers summarize.

"Although green tea supplementation cannot guarantee a definitive change of these variables, we suggest that green tea supplementation can be used as a complimentary measure, together with a balanced and healthy diet and the regular practice of physical exercise, in the therapeutic approach of obese patients."
